Finally got to upgrade and bronze out my 23 OBX. Replaced the stock 18”x7.5” wheels and 32” tires w 17”x8.5” Black Rhino burnt bronze wheels and 33” Toyos. She’s got a much better stance now w a 1.5” poke outside the fenders. Still in spec so didn’t need to remove the crash bars but the rear ones are close! Also added the ford sinister bronze grill letters and bucking bronco overlays, aftermarket bronze and black script, and new iag mud flaps. It all ties into the brown and black interior now. I think she’s ready for the OBX Bronco Beach Bash in a couple weeks!

Good to see you're following the NC rules, and considerate to others...

AI Overview

In North Carolina, tires extending outside wheel fenders are generally legal, but they must be paired with functional fenders, mudguards, or flaps to prevent road debris and spray. While no specific, exact measurement for protrusion is strictly defined, the vehicle must meet safety inspection standards, specifically § 20‐116 of the North Carolina General Statutes. [1, 2, 3]
  • Fender/Mudguard Requirements: Rear fenders or mudguards must cover the tire tread width to manage spray, according to 19A NCAC 03D .0500.
  • Safety Inspection: Tires that protrude too far without proper covering may fail inspection due to inadequate coverage.
