Anti-Skid Choices for Steps

I'm having the Rockslide Engineering power steps installed this week for my wife. When the steps are retracted, the housing still sticks out about 3-4" from the body. That creates a small step you could stand on.

However, this looks like it's a slick painted surface, not a good place to step or stand under wet, muddy, or icy conditions. So, I plan to put some sort of anti-skid material on these steps. Looking at the choices out there, I see various rubber products as well as anti-skid tape with a sandpapery finish.

I'm wondering which type of material works better on the trail? I'm more likely to face rain, snow, or ice rather than mud. Temps could range from zero F up to 110 F.

Get some commercial grade anti slip stick on film from an industrial or trucking or safety supply seller. The good stuff lasts forever.

It's not that slick, even when wet. It has a powder coat that has a little bit of stick to it.

The powered step itself has 3M grip tape on it - pretty good stuff, like what @23OBX2.7 is recommending. Most folks don't stand on the top of the slider itself - you are right, you absolutely can, but the only time I really ever seem to is if I am fooling with taking the top off, or have the step locked in while off road, or something like that.

If you wanted more stick on the top of the slider itself, I'd do that in a paint - like an anti-skid paint.

I touch mine up with Rustoleum Black Truck Bed Liner paint (it matches the powder coat pretty well) - and that has just enough grit in it that you can't pull a towel over it to dry it without getting the towel hung up.

Just a word of warning - I love the steps. The magnets get to be a bit of a pain though. Don't trust the double-sided tape it ships with - that will not hold long.

I have them and have not had issues through a winter. Can always add a stripe of spray on if you really need to, but suggest trying it out first. I'm doors off for the summer, and love the no-door add-on option!

I got exterior stair anti-slip tape from Lowes (which is also handy in various precut widths) for my SFR rock rails which also have a top ledge that functions as a step. I haven't put it on, though. I don't use the step and nobody has complained yet.
