I got my 1970 in the late 80s when it was dirt cheap and often ridiculed for being a squeaky brick of rust. I got it because it was so cheap I could afford it and could reach my back pastures to fix fences, carry tools to my broke down tractor, and get me to work in a snow storm. My F305 dump...
Lack of high hand holds. Window frame on doors (wind noise). Bigger fuel tank on 2dr. Maybe a silly one, but reverse is in different position compared to my 84 F350 3+1 and my 93 5spd miata, which are both down-right vs Bronco's up-left. My other Bronco is on the tree, so I don't tend to...
21 Badlands 7MT 2DR with 50k. Transmission replaced at 35k due to recall relating to the cold rattle + even further damage which made repair not practical, under warranty. No problems since.
I don't buy for image and am into form follows function follows need. No sense buying an offroad vehicle if it isn't to be used off road. In crawling gear, could be powered by a briggs and stratton lawn mower engine. Making it loud for loud's sake is annoying. If you're trailering a race car...
If you're asking would I buy another make/model to get the color I want, no. I did buy used rather than new to get the color, then upgraded to another used and older one to get the exact color and trim I wanted when I found it. My profile pic shows my '22 Black Diamond next to my '70, replaced...
Asking the question is telling about human nature...thinking that your vehicle is so capable that it can manage iced roads, whiteout conditions is what leads people to pack the highways despite the risk. Remember that every vehicle has four-wheel stop, and that it doesn't mean much on ice...
True for Badlands, but not other trim. Black Diamon for example gets 4.46 regardless of gearbox. Part of reason I traded in 2022 manual 2-dr BD for 2021 manual 2-dr BL, both non-SAS (and Cyber)
At the risk of hollering at kids to get off my lawn, I’ve always found it unmanly to follow appearance for appearance’s sake. How did big tires get to look manly? Because we used them to get out to the back pasture to fix a fence. Okay, that led to the creation of off-roading as a pastime...
In case of 6th Gen Bronco, I can’t use 6th gear without the turbo spooling even maintaining speed on level ground. So minimizing RPM isn’t saving wear or tear nor yielding fuel efficiency. And that’s with the 4.7 axles on 33’s. It was worse with the 4.46 axel on 32s.
In the case of Miata’s...
Can’t say I push it around too often. Can’t say never but not a regular thing. I do drive four different manuals, original Bronco 3 speed on column, 82 F350 3+1 speed, NA Miata 5 speed, and my 6th Gen, each with totally different Reverse locations. I do screw up occasionally particularly going...
Based on your earlier post regarding days when starting engine was a bit of an art, I'm guessing we're generally same era. Also see that we are both in Phoenix. Open to get on the trail some weekend if you're up for it. I'm up for anything say 7 out of 10 or easier. You may appreciate that...
In my 1970 Bronco, I always replaced my throwout bearing when I replaced my clutch, never did I replace my clutch when replacing the throwout bearing. Same with my all my manuals. Granted this is my only manual built this century but I’d hope they didn’t cheap out on the bearings. And then I’m...
I bought 6th gen for a long term assignment in AZ and wanted AC, with the idea to restore my daily driver 1970, 3spd 302. Non-stock at that time: 2.5" lift, holly carb, high output vent fan. Otherwise stock and mostly original, including the ignition. Coming: new (reluctantly, cut) body...
Beadlocks are not legal on DOT roads, so OEM's cannot furnish them installed. I've never heard of anyone being ticketed though, so sort of a silly situation.
1st gen / 6th gen owner myself. Bought the 2021 to restore the 1970 - was a daily driver / ranch vehicle up to then. Mechanically sound but the sheet metal was disappearing fast! Been taking the '21 on some rough trails out west. Didn't do much pleasure-offroading with the 70 - it was more a...
