Not a problem. I suppose with the side rails installed on the top, you would gain some precious inches. But you're right, a speed bump or a high curb could be a real issue
Not skipping, more of a smear. After a break-in period of a month or so it definitely improved. I ended up keeping them on throughout this past winter...but it was a super mild winter.
I've never heard of a wiper break-in, but I can't say it didn't improve after some use.

But, the garbage wiring they used for the resistor for us poors with halogen tails corrodes real quick, the fit is very finicky to make them flush with the bodywork, and there's no reflectors built in - so...
