I have totally enjoyed mine. It has traveled with me onto my 3rd Gen6. Has held up. Would buy another if I ever manage to destroy it, somehow.

When you say “performance eight“, I’m assuming that’s on a scale of one to 10?

Where does the stock exhaust fall on that scale?

And how did you arrive at that number?

Yes, when we say “performance eight,” that’s on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 representing the most free-flowing, least restrictive exhaust setup possible.

We rate the stock Bronco exhaust around a 3 on that scale. It’s designed by Ford to meet a wide range of comfort and sound-level expectations, which naturally introduces a fair amount of restriction in the name of quietness and emissions compliance.

At MRT, we define performance in terms of exhaust flow — the less restriction, the better the potential for performance gains, especially under heavy throttle. Our straight-through resonators are engineered to offer the same high flow as our muffler delete setups, with a bit more tone refinement. So when we rate our systems closer to an 8, it reflects that significant increase in flow capability over stock without compromising durability or drivability.

I'm potentially interested in the Trail Rated exhaust (axle back). What I'd like to know, however, is if there's quantifiable data to support any positive or negative affects the exhaust would have. While an improvement in the sound is nice, I care more about whether there are any performance increases (or decreases) and/or if it has any affect on gas mileage (positive or negative).

Appreciate the interest — the Trail Rated axle-back is actually our most popular system for the Bronco, and for good reason.

From a performance standpoint, the system improves exhaust flow by reducing backpressure, which can help your turbo spool slightly quicker and improve throttle response. While the gains aren’t drastic, they are noticeable, especially when compared to the restrictive factory setup.

We don’t publish dyno numbers for this system, and here’s why: dyno results can vary widely based on factors like temperature, humidity, altitude, and even the specific dyno used. More importantly, modern vehicles like the Bronco are tuned very precisely from the factory. Simply adding bolt-on parts like an exhaust or intake doesn’t automatically unleash massive power unless the ECU is recalibrated to recognize and optimize those changes.

That said, our goal with every system is to maximize flow using sound exhaust engineering principles. Even without a tune, improving flow is never a bad thing and helps lay the groundwork for future performance mods.

As for fuel economy, we’ve had some customers report modest MPG improvements. However, it’s worth noting that once you can hear your exhaust, you're often tempted to be a bit heavier on the throttle — which is fun, but not always fuel-friendly. If you drive it like you did before the upgrade, you may notice a small increase in MPG, which is always welcome on a big, boxy rig like the Bronco.

Let me know if you have any other questions — happy to help you find the right setup for your needs!

I am looking to improve performance on the trail and fuel mileage on and off the road. I am not a road racer and am not a lead foot. I don’t care what it sounds like. What’s your recommendation?

If your goal is to improve trail performance and fuel efficiency — and sound isn’t a concern — I’d recommend the Trail Rated Turndown system.

This setup increases exhaust flow and is designed with off-road functionality in mind. The turndown tip is tucked neatly behind the rear bumper, offering excellent clearance and protection from trail obstacles — no low-hanging pipes to worry about.

Thanks for admitting this. Too many consumers believe, and too many aftermarket suppliers explicitly state or silently go along, the idea that it is a simple equation: Less back pressure/more flow always = more HP/performance/mpg.

Absolutely — we see this a lot, especially on smaller-displacement engines where people assume jumping up to a 3" exhaust automatically means better performance. In reality, that can actually hurt performance by eliminating too much back pressure, which causes exhaust gases to tumble and disrupt flow efficiency.

Exhaust design is all about balance — it’s not always “bigger equals better.” The ideal setup varies depending on engine size, intended use, and how the vehicle’s ECU is tuned.

And you get rid of that heavy half keg of a muffler Ford has chosen to tuck under the back end for something the size of a shoe box.
