Finally finished the install of tailgate subwoofer by Stinger, TFXBB12 which included Audio Controls 12”SPC12S2 subwoofer, 400 watt RMS, 600 peak, 2 ohm impedance. Also the Jensen JA1B amplifier with DSP, with 470 watt RMS at 2 ohm impedance. To add the subwoofer you have to also add an amplifier. This is complicated because in a soft top Bronco everything is supposed to be waterproof. So that means either a waterproof amp or installation behind a solid panel. I opted for installation behind passenger side panel in the cargo area. I did not need to make any modifications to the panel. It was a tight fit but ended up pretty perfect. There are several M6 size mounting studs protruding up out of the wheel well, I was able to attach a 2x2” aluminum corner bracket to 2 of those studs using M6 nylon insert lock nuts. The amp mounted at each bottom corner to that bracket and then used a self drilling screw to secure the top left corner into the seat belt mechanism well. Also used a 3/4” long nylon spacer for the screw reach and finally a 1” tall rubber stopper is wedged under the amp for extra cushion and damping.
Power cord is red, 8 gage, run from the battery through the drivers firewall grommet down the drivers side and then across the cargo area wire chase up into the amp location. I decided to splice into the high level speaker inputs from the rear sound bar for audio signal. I made that connection in the rear passenger door threshold for easy access in case of a problem.

Finally, I learned that the REM remote on/off input was not needed if using high level speaker inputs (as opposed to low level, low voltage RCA inputs) because the JA1B has remote signal sensing built in. I was planning to use the Bronco prewired AUX6 switch for easy on/off subwoofer control from the cockpit- but that won’t work with this sensing technology.

@Jmansfield - How do you like the Stinger ? Looks like the new one with the new subwoofer - does it hit hard ?

It is a huge sound quality improvement. But it’s not going to wake up the neighbors like 1000 watt subs. My son drives it more than me, I can hear him coming down the road for maybe 1000’. Bass boost is impressive but he already blew it out once and Crutchfield was great with replacing it. Told him no more bass boost for him - it’s great if you prefer more prominent bass but you can’t crank up volume and shift everything to the subwoofer and expect everything to be ok for very long.
