Got back from a summer vaca to Keystone. Took the Bronco off-roading a couple of days. My family meet up with 2 of my longest friends (elementary and highschool) and their families.
Day 1:
Buddies and one buddies son hopped into the Bronco.
Entered the trail head before Montezuma coming from Keystone on Montezuma Rd. Took a little drive on Peru Creek. I did test out the sway bar disconnect for about 100yrds just to feel the difference. Stopped by the old mine locations.
Then we went down past Montezuma and took Deer Creek. Made a bit of a wrong turn and ended up coming down Radical Hill. The name is fitting...lol. Ended up popping my front passenger side tire as I was too focused on the front drivers side. About a 3in gash in the sidewall from getting pushed into a rock on that side. Quickly rolled down to a clearing that was flat-ish to change the tire.
Got the tire changed and completed the rest of the trip. I did scrape the skids a bit with only 33's I knew I would. I did make an off camber turn from the end of radical hill to try and get onto the trail that went back to Montezuma. Spun the back end around and decided to use my winch just to be safe as an anchor so I would not slide backward if I stalled. Put it in crawler gear in 4L and it went right up. At least got to test the winch.
Ran into a CY Badlands Sasq that he said was a pre-production...shot the ish for a few min and wished each other a safe/good day and went out separate ways before I made the above off camber turn.
Day 2:
Buddies rented SxS again (we all rented them the day before). Went back and ran Chihuahua and everything 4x4 accessible on that side.
Then we loaded up the SxS's and went to Williams Peak and went up to the tower at the top of the hill and explored some mud holes and side trails. At the end of the main road if you will there was a set of 3 or 4 hill climbs. I climbed the furthest left as it looked the most evenly sloped as a first attempt. Made it no problem and used the hill descent control on the way down (super easy and controlled). Great area to drive around and not as technical as the trails get around Montezuma.
