Bronco after 100k miles

Never underestimate the ability of rust to kill an otherwise mechanically-sound vehicle.

I got 13 years and 187k miles out of my 2k Tacoma before it was condemned by Toyota for a hole bigger than a quarter rusted through the frame. The truck still looked great, ran great, and was mechanically original except for a new clutch plate at 120k and a starter solenoid I rebuilt myself at 90k for $22 in parts. Even the undercarriage looked fine at a glance because I’d been touching up any visible rust spots on the frame for years. The cancer was in a hard-to-see area on the inner side of the boxed frame alongside the gas tank.

Toyota cut me a nice buyback check and sent the truck to be scrapped.

Overall, that truck was the best, most reliable vehicle I’ve ever had and likely ever will have. It died too young due to rust. I still sigh when I think about it. Don’t let it happen to you.

My 22’ Big Bend, 2.7 has 83,398 miles currently. Just recently had the pro cal tune installed. Over the past 4 years or so, the 2.7 has required transmission maintenance (evidence of metal shavings), cam phaser replaced, timing chain replaced, routine oil changes and filters of course. Extended warranty has helped with the major work. Overall, the 2.7 has performed better than I initially thought it would. Good to see other Broncos hitting that 100K mark. I plan to keep my Bronco until the wheels fall off. Have too much aftermarket parts money invested in to it, plus it’s been the most fun vehicle I have ever owned.

Good for your extended warranty, but I would consider that unacceptable. For the first 100k there should be zero items besides tires, LOF, and brakes. With a manual maybe a clutch at 80k+ assuming there was a design flaw.

We are just under 50k and have a 2.3L 7MT so a different situation. If I see anything prior to 100k I will be disappointed.

Now our vehicle is a pavement princess if you are offroading your vehicle then maybe I could get behind additional maintenance.

Btw our extended is 7 years/105k miles

I can't last remember when gas was last $1.11 / litre! It's 2.08 CAD currently where I live - or 5.68 USD per an American gallon.

I’m on dirt, hills, ruts as much as I can. My Bronco gets used and I push it.

Yeah having lived in the New England all my life and seen it first hand as well I totally agree. I got a lanolin-based undercoating right away. I'd rather deal with a grimy underside than a rusty one.
