I was looking for traction board mount options for the stock Ford roof rack and there was literally nothing, so I figured I had nothing to lose by trying to build my own. I think it came out pretty good.

It has some definite areas that could probably be improved by tweaking it, etc. but I’m very happy with the results currently and wanted to share it with the community.

Parts I purchased (roughly $100 w/o shipping):

2X U-bolts ($7 each): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BRZ617ZV?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

8 thick stainless washers from the hardware store which were probably $5 total

6mm PVC tubing ($9): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0919ZSK31?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

Universal traction board mount pins ($25) if you don’t already have some: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CFM6X2Y2?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

Traction board brackets I found from MAX ($55)

Putting it all together in progression (These pictures show only one washer being used on each end, but I ended up needing to use two on each post to tighten the ubolt down enough:

Just a few notes:

-I’ve had the boards on the top of the Bronco for the last month or two and have driven up to 90 MPH on the highway for several hours, some washboard roads and a basic trail in Moab with them up there with no movement of the boards or mounting brackets at all since I first tightened them down. I will probably take them back off at some point and add loctite as additional security.

-If I had different boards, I would need some slightly shorter U bolts because it may cause a bit of clearance issues under the boards. Mine just barely miss the bottom of the boards so I got lucky.

-I have cheap traction boards so I had to drill mounting holes in them to use the MAX brackets as they have a pattern that is only compatible with MAXTRAX, MAXSA, and Tred Pro boards, but it really wasn’t hard.

-If I could find some thicker U-bolts to use I may swap them out as well, but the M6s are pretty much the largest U-bolt I could find that also fit the board bracket slots.

-I need to make some adjustments to the height of the pins that holds the boards down so it's fits in the garage. Just haven't made those adjustments yet.

Hope this helps somebody out there who wants to try and mount some boards to the stock roof rack that also doesn't break the bank. Let me know if you have any questions as well. Have fun out there!
