TLDR; I'm a moron and messed up my passenger dash panel and need a paint code

I'm an idiot. Let me get that out the way. I'm already suffering with my mistake, so please be kind. I'm not a complete idiot though and did spend time using the search function and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

Just got a new to me '22 Outer Banks in Area 51 with roast leather interior. Got it home and started cleaning it up and noticed some residue on the passenger side dash panel - the part with the indented BRONCO. Tried to get it off with a wet microfiber with no luck. So then... I took a dab of goo gone, big mistake. Learned quick that the panel is painted and not a molded in color, my bad. Took the paint off. Now I have what looks like a grease smear on the dash panel.

My options as I seem them are as follows:
1) Live with it
2) Figure out some sort of sticker to put on it that doesn't look stupid
3) Replace the entire panel myself for around $500 (I believe this is the part no., search function got me this): M2DZ-7804338-BZ
4) Remove it and the driver side piece and have both repainted to a similar color
5) Hit with a light coat from a custom matched rattle can (I'd tape off the panel and cover entire interior to make sure I'm not an idiot x2)
6) Vinyl wrap - don't like this idea because of the airbag

Right now I'm at either 1 or 5. For 5, I need the paint code which I can't seem to find.

Anyone know a paint code/color for this piece?

Here's a pic of my stupidity.

if THAT'S the worst of your stupidity, you're good to go.

My thoughts were 1 and 2, personally, but I get it. I do love my roast interior.

Like you said, 6 is off the table.

I don't think you'll find an off the shelf rattle can for this. You'll get some custom mixed paint, then add that to a sprayer. It's easy to mix the paint to match (well, I'm a color expert so it's easy for me, but a REAL paint operation can do it for you). But if you don't have a sprayer, that's a pain. Poke around and find a guy. Maybe find a body shop that's looking for some easy cash. Or can you specify the color and buy a custom spray can with that? That would be cool.

You know, if you can, try that first. If you don't like the results, you're back to square 1. No real loss.

How about a junkyard piece?

There is no "official" paint code because it's not a painted piece. You could probably color match it... but it'll take some work.

If it was my Bronco I'd 100% be going with #1. To be honest I don't even know if I would have noticed that I made a scuff like this, but I also am a little more carefree with the Bronco given it's an off-road vehicle.

Another option: With these plastic trim pieces you can sometimes hit it lightly with a heat gun to soften the appearance of the scuff. Works pretty well with the cargo trim panels in the back, and should work with these as well. Don't get too crazy with the heat though otherwise it'll lose that texture.

Only second hand/junkyard ones I've found thus far are either black, broken, or airbag deployed.

I was hoping that a custom spray might be available if I found a paint code.

Yeah, 1 is probably the best option. I'm just a bit of a perfectionist... If the spot was there already when I bought it I'd probably be just get on with life - the fact that I did is what bothers me!

BTW, watched several of your videos leading up to buying it. Just gave you a subscribe over on YT. Cheers

Getting the actual color--L*a*b* values--is easy. Then all you have to do is find someone to make you a spray can with that.

Body shops do this all the time. So does home paint stores--I'm talking Benjamin Moore here. Matching the color is easy. If you were near me, I'd pop over and we'd have that in a moment.

Plan 7 would be, toss some mud inside and ignore the whole thing...

But if you're really into making that go away, just buy the panel from Ford and replace it. There's a video here that talks to taking the entire dash apart in order to switch out the 8" screen for the 12" screen. Find that and you'll see what labor you're into. It doesn't look difficult. Hint: the airbag is bolted to that panel. (And if you have the 8" screen and want to swap that out, shoot, as long as you're there...)

Just leave it. It’s fine. Your next scratch will take your mind right off this.
