I am certain that this has been posted before, but I can't find it. What OBDII adapters should I buy? And which should I avoid?

If you just need to read codes, do all of the normal troubleshooting stuff, reset TPMS, etc.... Ancel FD700 or Bosch OBD 1350.

If you want something that works with Forscan... this ELM327 adapter or the OBDLink EX. (The latter is recommended by Forscan themselves.)

If you want something that can actually do most dealership-level programming... Mongoose Plus. There are some cheaper J2534 adapters available that I know that @mpeugeot uses, and I think he's been (mostly) successful with it. Admittedly not sure what those are though.

If you want full shebang that can do literally everything your dealership can do... get the VCM3 (same thing @Ducati1098 uses). Personally I have a Bosch MasterTech 2 VCI, which is effectively the VCM3 in a green shell instead of a red shell. (y)

I’ve had good luck with the OBDLink EX and Forscan. It will not work with FDRS though

I bought this one for Forscan. Ideally it would be nice to have one that is BT and would work with both Windows/Forscan as well as Android/Torque so if there is one out there, might be worth the extra $$

This one is $35

Look at the Forscan website - they have links to the recommended Adapters. I tried something 'cheap' and just had to eat that cost as I could never get it to work.

There's a Youtube vid with a discount code for the OBDLink EX. Worth 30% off, a great buy at under $40 with discount.

I went with a cheaper one with the toggle switch adapter and got the error - "the adapter is NOT recommended for this car - some FORSCAN functions may not be available or not work properly. So, its unable to load the ACM module.
