I plan on going up to Idyllwild the end of July for a few days. Any suggestions on dirt roads that I can take with the wife by ourselves?

Black Mountain Road; San Jacinto Truck Trail; the Old Control Road…to name a few. If they open Bee Canyon, that is probably the most technical trail in the area.

My brother and I went up Bee last Sunday. Didnt see any closures. Took a right somewhere in there and it dropped us right into the Arts Collage. Went to Idyllwild for lunch then in to Palm Springs.
Nice little trek.

Any problem for my Wildtrak to go over it. My wife wants to go to the Arts College. She went to summer music camps there in high school.

I didnt see anything that would cause an issue. We were in my brothers Range Rover. I think my Focus could have done most of it lol
Went to Big Bear via Pioneertown the previous week in my Bronco, was pretty easy as well with the exception of of pitted hill.

Do Bee Canyon to San Jacinto trail. It ends in pine valley (idyllwild). Did it a few weeks ago. Pretty mild trail but fun.

It’s not a college. Idyllwild Arts Academy is a private boarding high school. Still has the summer programs though…some of them for adults. Your WT should be fine BTW.

She did summer music camp at ISOMATA. Maybe that was it before it became a boarding school

That was the old name back when it was administered by USC; changed to IAA sometime in the 90’s(?) when they became fully independent.

The Old Control Road dumps out right at IAA, starting from Hwy 74 a few miles east of Hemet. It was the old route into Idyllwild a hundred years ago or so, when the town was just starting up as a mountain “resort”.
