Is this the sub location?

I have seen this bump out on the back door in several photos. Anyone have any ideas what it is? Is this the sub location for the 10 speaker system?

It is not the subwoofer, the subwoofer is in the right rear

Nope. That is the room you need in the rear gate to accommodate the latch and lock mechanism.

The rear gate is relatively thin.

Jeeps are exactly the same way.

Sub is on the passenger side of the rear cargo area.

Thanks dude! Its going to be a bit harder to add a sub in the factory location than I thought. Looks like its going to require buying that quarter panel trim and grille.

I believe it’s the rear vent for air that escapes behind spare tire.

Thanks dude! Its going to be a bit harder to add a sub in the factory location than I thought. Looks like its going to require buying that quarter panel trim and grille.

I believe there’s just a straight up square cubby there on models with the base radio.

You could probably mod the panel pretty easy (cut out the cubby) and then add a speaker grill over the hole for a finished look.

Yeah, isn't it vented to equalize the pressure when you slam the swing gate?

Yeah. All cars have vents hidden somewhere.... not just for car doors closing, but for airbags going off, etc. They're usually hidden behind a rear bumper somewhere.

It's pretty easy to hide the exterior vent behind the spare tire and let the air pass through the gate... what's what jeeps do as well.
