Took my Bronco in for routine service earlier this week. Asked them to take a look at a few other issues I was having -- namely one of the windows was slow to roll up (see my other post on that), and there is some jerkiness/harsh shifting taking place while accelerating from stop.

They road tested the Bronco and, of course, couldn't replicate the harsh shifting. But, despite my check engine light not being on, they did say the system gave the following error:

ROAD TEST VEHICLE - COULD NOT GET VEHICLE TO JERK WHILE ACCELERATING - CHECKED FDRS FOR CODES IN PCM - P04DB - CRANKCASE VENTILATION SYSTEM DISCONNECTED - FOLLOWED FDRS TO PPT HG IN WSM - HG1 - YES - HG2 - YES - FOUND LEAK FROM PCV HOSE ON REAR OF ENGINE - SEE PICTURE
Dealer ordered the part on Tuesday, but it hasn't come in yet. They asked if I wanted my Bronco back until it did. I asked if it was safe to drive, and they said yes. But they also haven't explained what this P04DB error is, or any of the other jargon in their diagnostic comment. Also, the picture they provided doesn't seem to show any kind of leak or disconnection, but I, admittedly, have no idea what I'm looking at.

Would someone kindly explain to me what problem my Bronco has? Also, is it actually safe to drive?

Not something I would be worried about, especially if the check engine light wasn’t currently on. Probably just a historical DTC.
Should be completely fine to drive.

OK, thanks. When I searched other posts about P04DB, a lot of them seemed to indicate a larger problem with air intake. It seems every week there's an interesting new sound coming from my Bronco, so I'm never quite sure what to make of them.

Yeah aftermarket intakes, catch cans, etc. can sometimes cause codes like this.

There’s also an SSM for this code for some 2023’s with a 2.7, not sure on your year or engine though.

Well from this SSM it sounds like it was just a fault only while in transport mode most likely. Probably just a programming issue. Which is also probably why it’s a historical DTC and not a current fault with the check engine light on. So as long as the light doesn’t return, you probably have nothing to worry about.

Good afternoon. Would you please send over a private message with your VIN and dealer info so I can look into this concern further on my end? Thank you!

Out of curiosity, how do I find or search these service bulletins? I'm having some other issues with my Bronco and it would be helpful if I could self-educate, or at least go to the dealer armed with information.

Also, not sure if this is related at all to the PCV hose being faulty, but when I picked up my Bronco on Friday evening, and was driving home, I noticed a new noise. It becomes audible around 47-50 MPH and crescendos around 55 MPH. It never gets any louder, but continues to be audible even at 70 MPH (altho with the soft top on it starts to get drowned out with road noise).

It sounds a bit like the long test tone that plays before the Emergency Broadcast System makes an announcement, only muffled. It seems to be coming from somewhere in the front driver/dash area. It is noticeably louder when I lean in closer to the dash than when I am reclined in the driver seat, but I can't tell if it's coming from outside the vehicle (like a wheel bearing?), under the hood, or inside (like one of the vents).

I don’t know of any place where you can find a list of service bulletins. I have access because I work at a dealership.
As far as the other noise, it doesn’t sound like anything I’ve heard of, but I would definitely mention it to your dealership when you go back in.

After a bit of Googling, I learned that NHTSA also has a database of service bulletins. And I came across this one, specifically, which mentions a whistle coming from the driver side A-pillar at speeds over 50 MPH.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10239096-0001.pdf

I'm guessing this might be it. I'll notify the dealer.

Interestingly, I found another service bulletin about how customers who ordered both hard top and soft top from factory may not have received all the necessary trim pieces to swap tops, which is an issue I ran into last May when I swapped tops for the first time. The bulletin was dated for June, so I'm happy if my issue helped another customer. :)
