I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this post, because it's not a journal or anything, but I am really needing some help on an upcoming trip. Hoping someone here can help.
My two boys (15yr & 25yr) are planning a camping trip up to Utah at the last part of March. Here's a few details.
- Must be dispersed, no campgrounds. Fewer people the better
- We really want a spot with lots of stars
- Ideally want to be able to shoot where we camp, but not a deal breaker
- We would love tall trees, but we're finding that it might be difficult given the time of year with road closures
- We know it will be cold. We are tent camping with appropriate warm gear
Originally, we were looking at Dixie National Forest. Looks amazing in photos, but we called the ranger and he said if there's snow that area has a lot of road closures. He did stress the cold, but at least so far there has been very little to no snow from what I'm told. I think it's about 9000 ft where we were going to go.
Then, we started looking into Pine Valley. The ranger said it was going to be a good spot, albeit it doesn't look like there's a lot of tall trees. I'll live. Ranger said this area should be open that time of year.
My son is driving down from WA and I'm driving up from Phoenix so this is the ideal meeting area so not looking to venture off to like new mexico or something as it adds to much driving for my son.
Appreciate any help you can offer.
