I ran into the same thing starting about August when I was looking around. It was really crazy to be told things like: "We only sell for MSRP, this is a hot item" while there were 4000 units of inventory sitting on dealer lots nationwide.I found mine mine at a dealer near Ephrata, PA. Paid $81,900 on a list price a little over $97K. I had been pestering dealers for about 8 months. The inventory in the northeast is thick and when I first offered $82K, each and every dealer got kind of indignant with a "don't waste my time" attitude. Some laughed out loud and said good luck. They're not laughing now. I drove the new Raptor to the 5 dealers who laughed and was sure to say hello to their GMs. Point is - don't be smug a$$holes. And, spend some money on teaching people how to sell cars.
I think they sometimes hold out hope that someone will come in who doesn't know what the hell they are doing with researching market prices, inventory, etc. and completley agree with you that some dealers can be down right obnoxious. I was ghosted by Anderson Ford Kingman after trying to drive them down below $77.5K on a remaining 2023 vehicle that they had and then they called me back to do a victory lap claiming: "Someone who appreciated the vehicle drove down from Montana to buy it at a reasonable price."
Ultimately I was happy with how I did and got a build equipped exactly as I wanted at a reasonable price. It definitely takes leg work, perseverence and patience (including being told your crazy by dealership staff). Sooner or later someone will play ball as long as you are pushing on the low side of current market.
