I just had my passenger side rear shock assembly replaced due to a torn dust boot. Can anyone identify this orange piece that is clamped to the coils? It is not on my original shocks and I’m not sure if this was supposed to be removed during install.

It's a crude/non professional way to increase ride height. They used to sell knuckles you would screw between the coils as a repair for sagging springs.
