Wife's 24' Bronco rear window is burnt up along the defrost wires, when calling our local service department to warranty it the gentlemen unprompted told me he's done 2 himself since Christmas, so this seems like a common issue and I suspect contributes to the "random exploding rear glass" threads I found upon my initial search for answers.

Has anyone found a reason why or something to do to mitigate this? Not a huge deal under warranty, but if this is something we can't resolve I can see this being a big annoyance down the line.

Thanks!

OMG, if the rear is like the seat heaters… I am surprised the seats haven’t caught on fire.
After the replacement, a resister could be added to the positive side going to the heating element, reducing the current to the heating element.

Not sure where you are at, but here in Montana the temperatures can reach -40 for a week at a time, so then a verifiable resister would be handy to control the current.

So far we have not had any issues with our rear window defroster this winter, and haven’t heard of anyone hear experiencing it either.

Hope you have better luck with your replacement.

Mine 100% burnt like that too. I never use it either. It just kinda got that look over time by itself. I was told it was normal. Never attempted to warranty it.

Hahah true that, the seats get hot quick! We are in the midwest, pretty mild this winter other than a few days around O- -5ish F.

Certainly not a huge deal, but my wife splurged for the HEL so I wouldn't be thrilled to hear a toasted rear window is considered "normal" for a $70k vehicle.. or even a $50k new vehicle lol

Something is clearly screwy, and there are a handful of "exploding rear glass" threads around here and my theory is they're linked lol

Bringing this thread back up for possibly some more takes.

On our second rear window, and it's done it again. This time the dealer is trying to blame the tint.. which this window was tinted, but the first was not.

Is the prevailing consensus for Bronco owners to just live with the burnt up rear glass? lol

After the second one, I'd be scraping off the OEM entirely and getting a Frostfighter kit.

Can't say I've ever seen a thread about this other than yours. One-off issues are the worst to chase down because no one else seems to be having the same problem.

What is happening physically, can you post pictures?

Yeah I might just keep showing up to the dealer lol here's one I found online, pretty much the same thing.

It doesn't appear to hinder functionality I don't think (never really tested it), just looks bad and doesn't sit well as a "deal with it" issue so it's a little frustrating.
