Could you be so kind as to throw in a google map of the entry point to this? I’ve tried (I think) this trail before and was geared by a gate, with no indication that it was the right place. Thanks!!
The entry point is the maple springs ranger station off the silverado canyon road when it dead ends. I don't know how to drop a pin here.

Try the lower cleghorn 3n47 road (santa fe). Its an an enclosed offroad area that is bisected by the PCT and the BNSF railroad. It has high speed gravel paths, river crossings and a moderate riverbed crossing. You get there by taking I15 to cleghorn and turning west instead of east and driving towards the railroad track. Watch for trains!

I had tried the maple springs trail, I remember seeing the gate here closed (image from google). I'll try out the one you mentioned too, thanks!

Anza Borrego has lots of trails at all difficulty levels. Most interesting ones are around Canon Sin Nombre and Fish Creek. Fonts Point is an easy drive with a nice VP at the end. The Pumpkin Patch is also easy.

JT has easy to moderate trails.

Death Valley starting south at Harry Wade Road or north of the Ubehebe crater towards the Eureka Dunes - both probably closed after the recent flooding.

And if you are looking for something slightly more adventurous - Silver Canyon in the White Mountains. Downhill towards Bishop if you want an easier route, uphill for more challenging.
