Should I Do This or That?

So I ordered a Raptor a few months ago….still no update. Couple of questions though..

1. Would it be cheaper to buy a base or Badlands and mod it than to get a Raptor?

2. Does anyone know if I can take my Bronco Raptor to Shelby to have them make it a Raptor Shelby? If so, does it make more sense to just get a Base and have them turn that into a Shelby?

You can’t really order a base and mod it to equal the raptor. You don’t have the same engine option as a raptor unless you did it yourself.

Anything other than a factory Ford Raptor is a FAKE.
It would cost you more to actually create one from a Base or any other form of Bronco than a factory made Raptor.At the very least with the parts supply issues it's probably damn near impossible to do.

Buy what you want through a dealer and if it involves waiting, then just get in line.

That’s why I said unless you do it yourself. And there’s more than just replacing the engine after you take delivery. You’re not able to build a raptor out of a base through the dealer. But it doesn’t make it impossible.
On his message he also asked what would be cheaper. Buying a car with a bunch of shit you aren’t going to need wouldn’t make it cheaper.

Never do a fake.

Ultimately building any other model Bronco to similar specs to a Raptor is a losing proposition, you can’t do it cheaper or better than Ford. I will say that you could do a $45K base squatch with the 2.7L, add a stage 8 suspension kit for $11K, and some 37” tires and end up with a very good performing rig for ~$10K less than a basic Raptor. It still won’t be the same as a Raptor, but there is no ADM or all the other Raptor BS. You won’t be able to match the Raptor engine, upgraded axle component, etc.

The best part of modding your base is how worthless it is when you get in a wreck and they pay you fair market value on a ‘base’ not a Shelby

And before everyone chimes in ‘depends on your insurance policy’ I haven’t met a base owner of anything that modded their car then added the appropriate additional insurance

remember kids unless you file with your own carrier the other carrier won’t care about your mods anyway

So I was thinking of doing this myself with a non-Raptor. I texted with the president (Gary P.) of Shelby American. Here's a portion of his response from back in March '22.

"Unfortunately due to vehicle shortages we don't currently have a Bronco program. Once we can get Broncos in quantity we will likely have something."

Not sure much has changed since then.

1. Buy a wrecked Base 2 Door.
2. Buy a Bronco R.
3. Mod the Bronco R for lights/window/basic "legal" stuff.
4. Take the vin off the Base 2 Door and slap that thing on the Bronco R.
5. Never get pulled over.

Answer to question 1) NO. If you have to ask why the don’t get a Raptor.

Answer to question 2) probably not since Shelby hasn’t announced any bronco plans yet, and since we’re talking Shelby it would still probably cost more than a Raptor

Bronco R has not even been mentioned as a possible build. The DR has but that will cost at least 250k.
