I went to college at Syracuse. No such thing as a state of emergency for snow in CNY. Classes are NEVER cancelled. Actually they cancelled classes for a couple of days while I was up there bc a micro-burst hit the city and ripped buildings apart and took power out for a few days. It was the 1st time classes had been cancelled in like 25 years or something.
Umm... except for today... and those other times 😜 (which were spread over 150 years which is amazing!)

Exactly; Cornell closed down on February 14, 2007 when I was up there for the Valentine's Day storm (forecast was for up to 30 inches; I think we got about 22 if my memory is right). Was one of the first full closures of the university in its history since 1865 (seems like they have gotten softer now though).

I got in my car and drove to Greek Peak and skied until the ski area lost power due to the blizzard conditions :).

Then I drove through more horrible road conditions to go ski Gore Mountain with nearly 40 inches of fresh snow for a couple of days.

Ah, to be young and free again.

Wow. Us Gen-X folks were far tougher than these babies.

That storm I posted was '98. Those kids weren't even born yet.
Last year Baby-Boomer here, and grew up during the "Global Freezing" Era.... schools almost never closed in Michigan winters when I was in school:

When I was a kid about the 1972 time frame, I watched another kid's nose start to get frostbite (tip turned yellowish) as we waited for the school bus one winter in NE PA.

Times were definitely different back then…. We were not spoiled as it related to weather!

Virginia. About 18” snow fell in our area, but as you can see the ice accumulated quite a bit. I’m about 200lbs and can walk on top of the snow. In my mid-40s and have lived all over the country; this was my slowest snow clearing process I’ve experienced (had to use a metal dirt shovel to bust through the snow). Have fun everyone!
