"Transport" Damage during shipping and more....

Has anyone had to take their Bronco in for any service aside from maintenance? 2 weeks ago I picked up my Bronco which had been damaged in "transport". Bumper was scuffed up pretty bad and the passenger side headlight had yellow paint/scratch as well. After I took it home I got a message on my Fordpass app that there was an issue with the passenger airbag module.

Took the Bronco in to have the light assembly replaced and the air bag issue checked. Turns out they are replacing the airbag, but they had to order it and wait for it. They are hoping the bumper and airbag arrive at the same time so that it can get replaced at the same time. They told me that I can pick up my Bronco while they wait for the airbag to arrive.

At first the "transport" damage didn't really bother, but now I don't feel comfortable driving my family around or driving my Bronco period. I'm starting to think that the "transport" damage is more severe than just damage to the bumper and light. I'm worried about a few things, how hard was the impact? Is it the reason the airbag module failed? Did it get knocked out of alignment as well?

My Bronco makes a lot of noises, even after it's off, random clicks and knocks at random times. Is this normal? I even hear a soft pop and I turn the wheel to full lock.

Should I be worried? Am I just being paranoid from the early issues I had?


Would love to hear your thoughts, maybe hear if anyone else has had airbag issues? This way I can rule it out from being tied to it something way more serious than transport damage. You can't really tell from the bumper pic, but there is a pretty good gash of the metal in the middle of it

It’s an unfortunate situation. I’m sorry your Bronco was damaged.

but from what I can see in the pics maybe you are being a little paranoid.

If the dealership noted it at the time of arrival and filed a claim with the trucking company they should be able to file a warranty claim and have it all repaired.

if you’d like a 2nd opinion then maybe have it inspected by a 3rd party trusted mechanic or body shop?

I'm in similar situation. My '21 Bronco had transport damage and was sent to a different dealership for repairs. Appearance wise it looks worse than yours but nothing internally or mechanical looks to be broke, just hood and everything to the grille. I had my dealer request that they do the work since I know I can trust them. It took a week to get it transported here, 3 days since we got it in and it will probably (hopefully) be only another week before its ready. I hope not longer than a week and no random noises or issues after I get it.

You are definitely being paranoid. A scuff and scratched like are hardly reason to believe there is significant damage everywhere else that would affect the safety of the vehicle. As for the noises on shut off. It’s all the modules going through their shutdown routine and is totally normal. Is this your first new car in a while???

Yes, to be clear, I have no issue with the dealer. They've been great so far and did file a claim and ordered replacement parts. I'm just concerned that the damage might be more that just the bumper and headlight.

The part that is upsetting as well is that depending on what else may pop up, it could take a while to get the part. From what the dealer said was that there was only 9 replacement modular bumpers nationwide and they were hoping to be able to get one of them. It would suck if there was another part that was more critical that we would eventually need to wait on.

Guess it's just frustrating when you get issues like this on a 50k + purchase. Figured I'd come on here to vent

Not sure what you would consider a while, but last new car i got was in 2018, a Ford Expedition. You're right maybe I am being paranoid, but i wasnt worried about the bumper or light. What triggered my paranoia was the airbag module failure and then me going down a rabbit hole wondering if the impact had anything to do with it. You know?

my MIC top had a pinky nail sized dent in it that the PPF guy noticed during his inspection.
i called the dealer and [[purportedly]], Ford will be replacing it.

Unfortunately, all the technology in these cars is a blessing and a curse (I’m an engineer and while I love being cutting edge, you see the potential pit falls). Mass production of anything especially airbags can be tricky. Look at the takata airbag recall. Not getting to far in the weeds. Your bronco is fine. I’ve already had a glitch on mine, tps sensor quit working for about 5 miles then came back. Sad it was damaged in transport but if I were you I would move on and enjoy it

If it is still making weird noises after being shut off for several hours, you might have a rodent problem, or its haunted.

Alright guys, you are focusing too much on the visual damage and related repairs. Think about manual or automatic transmission, how these are parked. And then how repeated bumps from impact in a railcar would affect the drivetrain (with or without parking break set)

I would make sure the dealer notes in the repair order to check for possible drivetrain damage, this way you have it documented in case such damage surfaces after pickup.

Bingo! So likely the electric parking brake is also kaputt, cause that is used to control hill start assist! So in your case, presumably, the dinkleberry that parked your rig in the railcar did set the P brake, but left the auto in a gear or N, and no gear if manual.
