Using upper dash USB port to run Android Auto?

Mine works over Bluetooth, it also automagically turns on WiFi on the phone, must need more bandwidth...

Android Auto wireless uses wifi.

It's all up to date and yes I do that and select my phone but that is when it tells me to plug it in

Mine did that when I first set it up.
Now it needs no wire.

Maybe I just need to get a new phone and then it would work wirelessly

After some searching I guess my phone is not compatible with wireless android auto.....going to get a new phone

I don't know if you tried this.

On Sync, go to Settings->Connections->Wireless App Projection
Make sure it's turned on
Make sure your phone's wifi can connect to the Network
You may have to Show Password and input it into your phone

From my understanding you have to be plugged in to the vehicle to use Android Auto.....it doesn't work over Bluetooth

It works over Bluetooth

Well after much research I have come to the realization that my phone is too old so off to get a new one
