I am constantly looking for places near me to do a little wheeling. I bought the full version of OnX Offroad. The nice thing about it is it has property lines and who pays the tax bill so I know what is private and what is public.
I found a trail near Lake Scranton using the app. The trail starts on state route 307. It is mostly on Pinochet State Forest Land. There is a sign at the beginning identifying it as DCNR land. The sign states travel is allowed but the road is not maintained. It is not a State Game Land area so it is not heavily patrolled by the Game Commission.
There are 3 main branches of the trail. One goes to Lake Scranton, One goes to the top of Montage Mountain, the last one goes to the bottom of Montage Mountain. The trails are pretty benign except for the bottom of the mountain (some mud, off camber tight areas, small obstacles). Its about 2 hours or so to go through it all.
I started recording the track late and had a glitch with my phone (phone was running hot, issues with Sync connection but that's for a different post). You can see some of the stats and the trail below.
