Does anybody besides me think Ford should offer the High Package in the Black Diamond as an alternative to otherwise having to upgrade all the way to the Badlands? (Yeah, I know OB has it but OB doesn't have all the off-road equipment the BD has.)

I would love this but I'm sure Ford's accountants would not love this. Black Diamond with High package would be my sweet spot as well. I'm not going to spend $6k on Badlands just for the privilege of selecting that, though.

Looking at the pre-release shots of the 12" screen it looks cool but also totally pointless. There's tons of dead space in the screenshots they show; there's only so much information density you could put on a screen like that before it becomes dangerously distracting, so it mostly looks like they're just spacing out the same info you'd normally see on the 8" screen across more space.

The camera seems really cool, but $10k cool once you're all-in going from Black Diamond to Badlands?

The big screen Ford put on the new Explorer (fake iPad) is a total disaster. They aren't able to use the extra space effectively and you end up with a tiny rear-view camera when backing up because they shoehorn a bunch of extra crap onto the UI. If I were going to buy an Explorer I'd deliberately pick the small screen.

Not so clear-cut on the Bronco (the aspect ratio is more usable), but for my use I think it would be a waste of money.

Unlike the Lux Package where the only thing I actually want out of that is the upgraded sound system, I'm actually interested in everything included in the High Package, not just the bigger screen.

I might goes as far as purchasing the Outer Banks 12" headunit trim & head unit for my Black Diamond and swap it out myself when parts can be sourced from the Dealer just so I can utilize Carplay on a 12" and have Vinyl washout/drain floors w/ my Black Diamond.

It seems to me that Ford wanted the black diamond to be the entry point for those who are daily driving their Bronco, but also want their vehicle to scream "lifestyle" and step out to learn how to drive offroad for the first time without spending thousands in parts or having to have tools/equipment . Where "moderate" is as difficult of a trail as those folks are looking at.

Base + Sasquatch is the entry point for those who will really be modifying these for hardcore off-road duties

Outer Banks is the pure "lifestyle" presentation. The Mercedes G-Wagon of the Ford product lineup if you will.

At least when I review the specs, BD speaks to me as the "soft core porn" off road option to get out there into something new and exciting, get all wet and possibly into trouble (with or without the better half's approval).

If you wanted the Black Diamond Screen & Mud (The BDSM model if you will), then you're already talking about the Badlands and that's a steep cost of entry for those who are just getting into the scene.

Sasquatch..... Well, size is everything, right!

I actually would like BD with the Lux package because I REALLY want adaptive cruise control. If this is offered as a stand-alone option I will be set with BD, otherwise, I have to consider badlands

Ironically, what first got me looking at Badlands was wanting the washout interior and the High package.

So to whichever accountant or marketing villain decided no High package on the Black Diamond...

Well played. :cautious:

Black Diamond with Sasquatch.....Would like to get the B&O sound system but its not worth the leap to OB or BL, not much on the mid or high packages that warrant the extra expense, in my opinion.
I need the heated seats from mid, keyless access is also nice.

My gut feeling is heated seats will be available ala carte, no mid oackage required....unless I missed a footnote somewhere.
There isn't really anything in the Mid that I want, but I do want heated seats.
I'll be a bit upset, maybe go aftermarket seat heaters for 150$ if I'm forced into a Mid package.
I'll know more when the prices/options availability come out.

The extra outlets being wired in factory are pretty cool. If they were stand alone i'd grab those. If only in the "mid package" then i'll wire in my own. Having a small air compressor on-hand has saved myself or others from a tow many times. With off-roading it's more important to have that capability.

My rig includes a "self installed" 1000W (peak 2000W) top quality pure sine Inverter with Anderson connect clips and 2AGW cables going to the battery. Runs small chargers, air pumps, electric impact, coffee pot, microwave, and a toaster. My cost $375 w/ tax. Takes two seconds to disconnect the inverter and take it to the boat, or another rig, etc.

I have one that usually is in my camper but I've wired the truck up for it as well and made a little clip for it. It's just a matter of loosening two thumb screws for the leads and moving it over.

I like the integrated idea but it's not much work to put in your own for not much money.

If the High Package was available with the Black Diamond I would 100% go with the Black Diamond instead. But Ford is smart, and is making it available with the Badlands instead so I'm forced to go up to that trim and pay extra.
