Do people think we should use a spare tire cover, or no? And if so, go simple, or get one with a cool design?

It feels silly to get one, the other tires get along just fine without one. On the other hand, the other tires are constantly rotating what's getting the most direct sun. So maybe the spare would start to be impacted since it's always the same side up?

In the Texas sun, the tires seem to dry out and crack. So I got a cheap solid black from amazon.

If you do a 5 tire rotation there's no need to worry about tire degradation.

I'd run a cover if I had a spare that didn't match.

How often? rotation order? does it mess with TPMS?

I think the spare is already on the tpms? But I guess it would be wrong about which tire was which with the rotation.

I rotate all 5 tires each oil change. Spare tire has a TPMS in it, so it’s a non-issue.

Spare tire covers are from a time when automakers saved a buck by using a cheap non-matching wheel for the spare. To hide it, they covered it up. Usually with an equally cheap vinyl material. The Bronco comes with a matching spare. Don’t cover it up.

I do mine every 2 oil changes, so every 10,000 miles. I probably should do it every oil change, but… laziness.

The spare has a TPMS and the vehicle will automatically learn the sensor. Granted it takes awhile to learn, so for the first dozen or so miles it’s going to show the tire pressure for the incorrect tire—that is… it’ll show the pressure of the spare.

Order is just the standard rear-wheel drive tire rotation:
  • Spare
  • Passenger Rear
  • Passenger Front
  • Driver Rear
  • Driver Front

I went with the spare cover cause I like how it looks. That said my spare tire was turning blue which is odd and looked weird.

Do you normally have to replace tires because they wore out, or because they are aged out?

Just sold the Expy I have been driving for the past month while waiting for my Bronco. Was the wife's but we got her a new F-150. She doesn't flog a lot of miles, so... tires were only halfway down to the wear bars, but they were 6+ years old and starting to crack the sidewalls from the AZ sun. (I warned the buyer they needed replacement)

So, if you put enough miles on that you wear out the tread, tire cover does not make much sense. If you run lower miles, then having at least one covered will reduce sun exposure by 20% or so.
