Not a Bronco story (unfortunately) but spent yesterday exploring the Tahoe National Forest up by Emigrant Gap with my kid. This is been my go-to area, for the last couple of trips. Usually I go in up by Forest Hill, but this time we decided to hit some of the northern parts.

I'll try to attach my Gaia route But I'm new to that software I don't know if I did it right.

Maybe we can start getting some "beginner trips" going.

looks like a great drive! heartbreaking to see the damage from the fires though

@calgecko yeah I was a bit creepy to just see nothing but naked tree trunks. But with all the dead trees lying everywhere around, it's just kindling waiting to be set off.

nice! Sure would be neat to somehow have a collection of trails on this site, but maybe in the main part in the off roading section? I'm new to really using Gaia too, have to see if I can incorporate what you posted.
The fire damage is sad for sure. So much beauty lost over the last couple years. All coming back, but never will be the same again in our lifetime :-(

@calgecko oh, that's great, thank you! This is my first 4x4, so not familiar with any trails anywhere near (I'm in the East Bay), and just looking at maps doesn't tell much. I'll def check out your videos!

Sorry if this is slightly off topic, but can you recommend some beginner areas in Foresthill? I have in-laws up there but don't know a ton about the area. The Bronco wont be here for a while, but I wouldn't mind exploring a bit in the F150.

@jikozi oh there is a ton. Tahoe National Forrest is full of roads. I have Gaia (still learning how to use it) but it is $40 a year and you can see all the roads to explore up there. You can also google Forest Hill Rock quarry.

Here's a screenshot of the path I like to go when I'm up there. The upper loop can get a little tight, but as you can maybe see the big trail starts and stops on Forest Hill Road.

@jikozi Gaia is really good, a little bit of a learning curve, but pretty easy to figure out and well worth it. I think it even displays on the center screen now via apple or android, though I haven't tired that yet, no trails near my home.

@jikozi yeah just download the free version. They have their own base map that actually is pretty good. But there's a couple key layers that you would eventually want and you need premium for that. Matt at ozark overland has some YouTube videos. But I will admit the more tutorials you try to watch the more confusing it gets.

But In the end you only need a couple key layers, Plus you can then import files from somebody else that will draw it out for you (unless the import function doesn't work with the free?) OnX is about the only other competitor, but there's a bit of a difference on how they work and some drawbacks (there are comparison videos out there as well).
