Do we need a pass of any sort to go through Schnebly Hill Road? I FINALLY have time and wife's free time work out... heading up there tomorrow and friday. Going to be taking the drive west from i-17. Just making sure if we need a pass/tag/license for that? I see Coconino has this Red Rock Pass && America the Beautiful Interagency Pass Program but don't really see anything about Schnebly on it.

I know a few of you go up there often so figure I'd ask. Thanks all!

Yep, get a red rock pass, most of the gas stations on the 179 on the way through Oak Creek have them

As far as I know you don't need a pass. I was on it a few months ago.

No pass needed, you can even camp at the top on schnebly hill without pass

I definitely don't see anything saying there's a requirement for one. May pick up an annual Red Rock Pass just to support forest service and CYA sort of thing.
Also the forest service offers maps but via this "Avenza Maps" app?... seems fairly antiquated of a system. I've downloaded the local area via OnXoffroad so should be fine in that regard.
Alright - thanks fellas.

the other folks are right, you don't "need" one for Schnebley. you do for some of the other trails though. Most times I go to Sedona, I just buy one anyways to keep the forest service doing their thing up there.

Make sure you air down! It's gonna be a bumpy ride! Schnebly is a beautiful trail, but once you do it once, you probably will have had enough of it! :)

@sklnbnzaz hah yeah i'm good. I typically drop to about 18psi. i have an ARB onboard in engine compartment to fill up. Got the wife and kiddo so making these rocky traverses more comfortable is key. Thanks though for the heads up!

@RynoRanger let me know how it is. Not going to have my Bronco anytime soon but the wife and I want to take her Rubicon up there also when our time off lines up.

The only 4x4 trail in Sedona that I'm aware of that requires a special permit/pass is Soldier's Pass as it's limited to 10 vehicles per day.

Red Rock passes are required for vehicles that are left unattended (i.e. "parked") at specific locations. If, for example, you're parking your car to hike or bike a trail, you need a pass. I've spoken to the forest service as far as they're concerned, driving your SUV on an OHV trail, even if you park to stop and view the scenery or take a lunch break doesn't fall under the 'leaving your vehicle unattended' stipulation.

I've been driving Sedona trails for ~25 years and never been required to have or asked to show a Red Rock pass.

Schnebly Hill Rd varies in it's comfort level throughout the year depending on snow & rain, and how often it gets re-graded. It's also closed during the winter. Sometimes you can find a Prius driving it, other times you need much better ground clearance. Either way, a stock, base level Jeep or Bronco will have no problem, as long as the driver doesn't get distracted by the scenery.

Airing down to 15-20 psi (depending on your tires) will make the ride much more forgiving.

Never fired an update in here.
Trail was great... pretty bumpy for the 3yr/old but she was fine. Nothing sketchy or hairy at all, just lots of bumpy rocks. That part right after getting off the I17 and airing down I tested out Baja Mode w/ some speed... very fun up there. Good views. All the Pink Jeeps on the sedona side of the trail... like... SO MANY.. also a hummer tour who was actually friendly and waved and said hi... pink jeep peeps never wave.
Would definitely run again but probably not with the kiddo... she wasn't much of a fan of that much rocking around. lol.
