Good. It's my understanding that most people won't have this issue. In particular with me, you can see in Figure A denoted by the arrows is a slight curvature where the two planes of the material intersect. On most units, this is more of a 90 degree angle instead of the curvature shown here. The result of this curve pushed out the hook causing a missalignment of where the pin inserts. If you look at Figure B, there is a crescent of material highlighted in green. These pictures were taken before the grinding. After, the pins are easily inserted. I do recommend a quick spray of WD40 before inserting to make removal easier.

Interesting indeed, I will have to look closer at mine again. Mine works no problem, pins slide in on both sides but the driver side pin is slightly tight to install and remove while the passenger side slides very easily in place.

It does appear in these photos to have the slight bottom protrusion outwards like yours, but maybe not as much as yours did.

I haven’t mounted the winch plate on my Bronco yet but was messing with storage ideas and the winch with mount fits in the box i have for the badlands jack. Just ordered a second one. box has wheels to help move it around to reduce the amount of carry time LOL.

Great info, will be looking into this too! Are you planning on “installing” the winch before you leave home, or put the whole kit in the cargo area and install at trail head?

I am planning on getting the maximus-3 mount, looking at pricing, is it best to get the warn zeon xd from maximus or is there better pricing out there? Also, I am new to winches, is there a huge difference between the zeon and the evo? Is there a better option, more bang for the buck that will fit this mount?

That's an awful lot of winching questions to pack into a thread ostensibly about the Maximus-3 removable winch mounting system. Short answers: Zeons are made in US, EVO's offshore. Big winch market, lots of options, even more opinions; if you want to know more then GIYF, if you want short story to fit the Maximus-3 the path of least resistance might be opting for a bundled saddle+winch solution so there's one-stop calling for support.

Finally getting around to getting the winch wired in. Not sure if i really like what i have started will have to see when i finish it this weekend. Will be using the manual battery disconnect that came with the winch.
