Maintenance they were denied permission to do by Sacramento
I do not understand governance in California... Here the city would have no say... the electric utilities are answerable to the PUC and the state house.... counties and cities would not have any say.... Oh they get input... they just are not the decision makers.

OR are using "Sacramento" as a reference to the State Governance? AND why the hell would they be denied maintenance? I can understand new Infrastructure "takes".... but not maintenance. That does not make sense. Besides... How were they held liable in court if they were not allowed to do the maintenance that cause the fires??? There has to be more to this story because something is not adding up....

Sacramento is the capital of CA. So my comment meant the State prevented the work

Conspiracy?

Having spent about 6 years wrenching on the very first hybrids (from the 40s and 50s) I look forward to the amount of torque an electric motor brings to the table... Very useful off road. I do want to see the weight decrease significantly before I think they are viable off road though.
+1...the weight is a deal killer for me even 5000lb Bronco is pushing it.

I am there with you... way too much weight... I have a feeling that new "dry" solid state batteries with higher energy densities may change that equation.... We will see....

People who like to go 4wheeling should also keep in mind that the segment of the population pushing for EVs and Hybrids are also pushing to outlaw things like off-roading.

And that EV is only able to go places with charging infrastructure. No multi-day trips over the Rubicon with one. Unless you are willing to carry a generator and the gas for it. Hardly saving the planet doing that.
Bingo. Its the coercion toward restrictions which I cant wrap my head around… and I own a Model 3. The only thing thats having me keep it is the FSD for my work commutes. Other than that i’m-up-to-“here” with the charging.

Only those who can not produce there own electricity.... Or petroleum products (or their substitutes)....
Hope you know how to defend yourself. And I mean to a military extent because in a grid-collapse scenario you’d be a massive target so you’d either have to be living so far into large acreage no one can see you exist or have to practically never use your ecosystem so as to not attract unwanted attention or risk getting your life taken

I appreciate your concern.... Yes my family has a long military history and I am aware of the the potential issues that could happen. I can and am designing a very defensible space without the appearance of such. And yes I have 40 acres, the smallest of allowable acreages in the area and two very large parcels one graze land apart of a large multi thousand acre ranch and the other state graze land before reaching large farms that are between me and the river. and the closest small town is on the other side of the river. Access to the property is not heavily traveled and somewhat winding and unintuitive. I am also an NRA 12th bar sharp shooter and understand how to design and build impassible vehicular blocks. I might be in trouble if someone brings a Bradley or a Tank but that is rather improbable given the location and distance.

Only means you can accept the change in one area but not another...

Lets be honest, you obviously see value in electric lawn mowers and tools... But no matter how good a vehicle becomes you are not going to accept it? why?

What if it had 1000 mile range, charged in 30 minutes and only weighed 3000 lbs while producing 1000 ft lbs torque?
eh what I don’t like about this is that it’s assuming stunning progress on one side, and no progress on the other. (Although half hour charging still seems slow)

what if a V8 got twice the mpgs, or if synthetic fuels can be produced more cheaply; cleaning the air of carbon in the process? Etc etc.

We have to compare what actually exists.

ICE will continue to improve... but it is a very significantly mature product that people have been trying to improve for over 100 years.... Electric in a vehicle kind of got forgotten about for 100 years... The advancements in electric storage and propulsion are almost leap frogging themselves on an almost daily basis.... That is just the facts... Projecting probabilities forward I would suggest that improvements in electric will far out pace improvements in ICE... That is projection on my part but gosh darn... it sure seems pretty easy to predict based on what has happened in the last 20 years and the reports we are hearing almost daily.... Yes I expect ICE will continue to improve... but the rate of improvement will not come close to matching.

 .....................I think they make that now.

I dont think it has that kinda range, but the neck snapping torque in a "light weight" package boxes are checked. 😁

The problem that I believe is at issue is the battery density and the weight of said batteries. You can make an electric vehicle very very powerful and very very quick.... BUT to do so more often than not requires using super capacitors as opposed to batteries. Look at formula 1... they are using electric motors to power the front wheels... BUT there are no batteries on board, just a using a couple of super capacitors.... The charge up while braking and then expend ALL their energy accelerating out of the turn. Everything spent, nothing left. Every corner.... Super capacitors can charge really fast and can discharge really fast, BUT they are not a good long term storage solution (at this time) not even for a day.... Maybe someday. Lots of people working on getting them there. Batteries are really really heavy right now. Part of that is the liquid electrolyte.... Dry, solid state batteries weigh less. And new chemistry (almost a new chemistry being developed every week) few will make it to market but the ones that do will increase battery density meaning it will hold more charge for the same weight. Many designs are also addressing dendrite growth. The bane of all batteries. It is dendrite growth that destroys batteries, it is dendrite growth that decreases the charge they can hold over time, it is dendrite growth that causes fires. If you can eliminate dendrite growth your battery will have unlimited recharges and last forever.... Huge new discoveries keep making the journals about minimized or even eliminated dendrite growth. They typically have focused on the electrolyte and a few have focused on more readily available elements (cost effective and less environmental impact on sourcing and even on recycling)...

Bio diesel, made from the output of a natural gas fired power generation facility.

The plant's by products are water and CO2. Route both into a tank to grow algae. Make biodiesel from the algae and then feed the left overs to cattle.

And also after converting everything to EVs if the .gov doesn't want you to go to an area, they simply don't approve permits to build infrastructure in that area.

People seem t forget the Left is pushing to move everyone into cities and turn most of the USA back to how it was when buffalo still roamed the plains.

Their big push right now are those 15 minute cities. Where cars aren't allowed and people get around on bikes or walking.
