Has anyone installed the Turn Offroad rear taillight guards? Linked here. Install requires trimming a body panel. Has anyone who has done this had trouble with leaking or gapping? Are they holding up? Appreciate any honest reviews!

Hey there,

Turn Offroad has a ton of reviews on those. Seem to have no issues and everyone loves them. If you haven't purchased yet, we offer these as well on our website. https://www.pandamotorworks.com/pro...ght-guards?_pos=1&_psq=torEAT-M1&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Take a look if you would like! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
I don’t always trust what I see on seller sites. The product you linked, for example, says “Installation is quick and straightforward thanks to the bolt-on design, requiring no cutting or drilling.” However, installation does require cutting. Your product description misleading at best.

I prefer to check for reviews from people who don’t have a stake in the sale because I believe those will be more trustworthy, so that’s what I’m doing.

When I had my taillight outon my ‘24 that cut was already made from the factory. It came off in 2 parts.
If the cutting worries you go pop that lower body trim off and see if yours is one or 2 piece.

the product itself I have no feedback on.
I do have their tailgate system and it’s solid and the powder coating so far is holding up great.

Everything that I have heard on these types of light guards is that, if you mash it against something, it's a lot cheaper to replace a broken taillight than a folded body panel.

Mine is a '23 and is two pieces as well. That lower piece is a pain to get off, especially the passenger side - but other than that it's not bad.

I got the flush Oracle taillights (yes they are still working) that don’t stick out instead…

Was looking at these as well. But, decided not to because of the hassle to just install some taillight guards. Also, I agree that rather than just giving you an answer to your post, you get a sales pitch, maybe they will be generous enough to give you a 5% off discount code.

I have these but haven't installed. I too wondered if I wanted to cut that piece. I also started to wonder about the "does this make a hit worse" a la steel fender flares caving the fender. Note they only connect on one side.

I would like to know others stories about actually using them, e.g. hitting or rubbing them on a trail. I've seen folks who broke the taillights, but so far can't say I've seen anyone hit these.

Totally understand! I do want to clarify that we are not misleading. Turn Offroad themselves has an installation video on these and don't see any cutting required. Here is the video if you want to take a look yourself; . Same video is on that product on our website as well!

The portion of the video that shows where and how to cut is from 4:02-4:58.

In the 80 Series Land Cruiser world, we call those damage multipliers. Save the plastic, bend the metal. A high percentage of 1990's LC's and LX's had various dealer installed aftermarket brush guards installed. Looked rugged ya' know.

First thing we'd tell newb's to remove.

What do you call this if not “cutting” (which is what Turn’s narration calls it)?

Sure it’s not cutting the painted surface since that surface is already split, but the part does need to be cut to split the mounting bracket.

To restore to original, would the back mounting section have to be epoxied back together?

I do apologize, I overlooked that small step in the installation video when I first watched it. It does look like there is a very minor trim/cut involved during the install process. From what I can see, it’s a very small amount and part of the normal installation for these tail light guards. Sorry for the confusion on my end!

Thank you for bringing that to my attention as well, we went ahead and got that fixed on our end.

Have a good day!

Honestly the flush style tail lights are a great trail upgrade, especially for those who don’t want to run bulky guards around the tail lights. Keeping them tucked in helps reduce the chances of catching or damaging them on obstacles while still maintaining a clean look. Appreciate the support!
