I was raised at the southern tip of Texas, on the border of medico and 10 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. Heat and humidity were crazy but didn’t bother me when I was young. I’m now 73+ and living in Austin. Getting ready to start doing some traveling and camping. It’s already in the 90’s with higher humidity. I enjoy camping and have already taken my ‘24 Bronco out a couple of times and weather was coolish at the time. No problem. It going out on the 19th and am dreading the heat. I’ve been contemplating breaking down and buying an a/c for the tent. Looking at the BougeRV and they have 2 models. One with heat and one without. Looking for thoughts and recommendations.

Anyone use a different brand that works well?

I have a Zero Breeze Mk3 w/ 1 battery, works fine as a personal cooler in 90+ weather but don't expect it to cool an uninsulated tent area. Blowing like a fan on my sleeping bag/mat area I sleep comfortably, it's very quiet. One battery gets me through a night and charges with a days travel (about 8 hours) from the Bronco rear cigarette plug. Works fine and battery charges fast plugged into external power. More expensive, but more BTU 5,280.

Go camping during a cooler season. I have resided in the Mid Atlantic Chesapeake bay region all my life. Summers are hot but it is the humidity that takes its toll. I went to San Antonio once for a work trip. It was 105 outside. When I exited an air conditioned facility the heat was so impactful my brain thought I should be smelling the aroma of cookies being baked.

From Florida, Virginia, or Texas (lived in all three states) I've always been able to find a place to camp comfortably year round.

It's only camping while traveling to either desert in winter or mountains in summer that I need the portable a/c to sleep comfortably in a tent.

If you’re using a rooftop tent, you could get some white vinyl to cover to the top of the tent so it doesn’t get as hot during the day. I also keep seeing this fan that clips magnetically to each side of the mesh but haven’t tried it yet. And as you already suspect, the portable ac unit. Personally I moved out of Texas to the mountains of Colorado as soon as I graduated. Can’t stand the Texas summers

Don’t understand.
I think what he is saying is that camping in Texas in the summer is gonna be hot-period. Camping somewhere further north where it isn't as hot as the surface of the sun might be better.
