I just took my 2024 OBX in for cracking issue. Service tech handed me the recall notice for the 2021-2022 vehicles and said that Ford is going to be issuing a recall for all MIC hard tops regardless of model years. Expecting this to be available in November. Anyone been told this?

You posted in the Raptor forum section that probably has 1/100th of the traffic of the non-Raptor sections. I'd try posting there but it'd be great news if it included all years.

First of all...they should do this.
Second, for those of us that went and purchased a aftermarket top to replace the MIC...Ford should extend to us a cash refund in a fair amount. At minimum, their cost of a MIC.
IMO, the MIC was a total failure and my only complaint about the Bronco.

If so, it’s definitely the right thing Ford should do.
But the question is now exactly will they do it? Do they have a completely new top from a different manufacturer that they're going to replace everyone's MIC's with? What about folks that have already had a top (or two or three) replaced, will they be affected by the recall?

There are a lot of unknowns with this whole situation, but it should be interesting to see how it pans out.

This is why I canceled my top order and just love the soft top

The big question is: what will the fix be? History shows that recalls are rarely "Here is a new, improved total replacement for free."

Often, they "inspect" the car and decide if it meets the criteria, and only a small percentage do.

But for cases where a failure is confirmed for recall, there is no obvious alternative to replacing the panel or panels. Ford can't simply slap a patch on the roof. The roof panels can't be taken apart. So it would seem that replacement is the only option... right?

The next question would be "what will replace the defective panel"? Unless they replace the entire roof, it would need to be an exact match to existing MIC on the outside.

Will they decide that the latest gen MIC is good enough? Or are they working on an improved MIC.

Ford is well aware that many 2021-2022 buyers would have preferred the painted top.

Will they offer an upgrade path?

For those of us that haven't had a problem, it would go a long way for customer retention if they would extend the warranty on them in general.

It is NOT a good look as a brand when a new roof has to be bought at 4 years of age and at no fault of the owner.

They may do that, you never know.

I expect this to be similar to the 2.7 valve recall. Where there will be an inspection, potentially replacement if it fails, and the maybe a limited warranty extension.

But, we will find out in November.

Well the failure and subsequent recall will work its way down to the contractor that built the MIC tops. If I recall correctly Ford dumped the same contractor in regards to building the MOD painted tops. What I have never understood is why these tops were ever an issue. The technology to build these tops has been long established, and why they decided to try some unproven top made zero sense. The bigger question is why they keep selling these MIC tops. Unless the failure rate is exaggerated in these forums and doesn’t reflect reality, I don’t understand why the MIC top wasn’t immediately eliminated.

I think you probably just answered your own question. It’s clearly an issue for some, I just don’t think it’s as big of an issue as some believe it to be.
