Thank you. Yes, it’s my braptor. Wilwood used my braptor for R&D of the kit so they wanted to install the kit to ensure fitment and function.

Wilwood is a very reputable brand but typically see them on street applications - what (if anything) are they doing different for off-road?

The OEM Braptor calipers and rotors are "street" brakes as well. There's no difference between them and any other two-piece sliding caliper. Hell, BMW uses the same basic design on their M3/M4. I will say the OEM caliper does look fairly stout but I don't have any specs on them to make any sort of assessment other than what I experience behind the wheel.

The caliper they're using is the TX6R which is designed for trucks and heavier vehicles. It can accommodate thicker rotors as well (38mm to be exact, which is pretty damn thick.)

Quoting from their site: "The Tactical Xtreme TX6R radial mount six-piston calipers are engineered and purpose built for severe duty service on heavy duty Trucks, SUV’s, and Class 1, 2, and 3 Armored Vehicles up to 14,000 lbs. GVWR. The combination of the forged aluminum body, stainless steel pistons, large pad volume, and the ability to accommodate brake rotors up to 1.50” thick, make the TX6R the ultimate choice for high strength, lightweight, and tactical level braking capacity for all types of highway and off-road extreme duty service."

I do a lot of aftermarket brake development for supercars. Wilwood wouldn't be my first choice but I've always found the OEM brakes lacking even with the stock tires. Decent modulation but could be improved a bit in feel and outright brake torque. Threshold braking ain't bad but I think that's mostly due to the tires and not the pads.

We may be limited by the ID of the wheel barrel in terms of brake disc size but as long as it has more swept area, it'll be an improvement. Two-piece discs with billet aluminum hats would have been nice.

If Carbotech has a pad shape available for the Wilwood caliper, that'd be a vast improvement over stock.

This is a 380x38mm long carbon branch chain rotor for a Huracan that weighs about 12 pounds (you don't want to know what it costs). Not saying Wildwood is going to go that thick (wheel clearance) but if they're at least thicker, with more swept area, it'll be an improvement with the right pad choice.

I looked up the standard Bronco kit and it's not using any spacers to offset the caliper radially. That means it's relying on the caliper for any increase in annulus (swept area) on the rotor face, if there is any. Looking at their parts diagram, the bracket may be cast into the hub, one piece, which would prevent mounting the caliper further out without a whole new hub.

I believe the OEM Braptor front rotors are 342x34 but I could be wrong.

The 2023 F150 Raptor kit uses a 13.38" rotor for the 17" wheels although if using aftermarket 20" wheels, there's another option with larger rotors. https://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/B...year=2023&make=Ford&model=F-150&option=Raptor

Unless it accommodate a bigger rotor, its pointless. Spend the money on pads/lines.
No brake expert here, but on my Excursion going from the stock calipers to 6 piston calipers with more clamping force and longer swept area (uses H2 pads) made a HUGE difference in stopping power with the same size rotors.

I don’t have much information, yet, but I believe the rotor size will be the same size because they want a 17” wheel to fit. 17” wheel seems to be today’s standard for off-roaders, so they designed the kit with that in mind.

I took the CCM rotors off my GT3 during track season....LOL. Yeah I know the cost. I did a big brake kit on a 2015 Jeep I built up and it was among the very best mods I ever did. I am a sucker for really nice big brakes and have been thinking about my Raptors brakes. They feel and stop way better than the Jeep392 I had as it had to me very insufficient brakes from the factory. My Braptor brakes work better but I'd like a better feel ultimately

I took the CCM rotors off my GT3 during track season....LOL. Yeah I know the cost. I did a big brake kit on a 2015 Jeep I built up and it was among the very best mods I ever did. I am a sucker for really nice big brakes and have been thinking about my Raptors brakes. They feel and stop way better than the Jeep392 I had as it had to me very insufficient brakes from the factory. My Braptor brakes work better but I'd like a better feel ultimately

The rotor in the photo I posted is actually a carbon ceramic disc designed to handle elevated track temps and more aggressive pads so no need to switch over to iron discs. You could run Pagid RSL1, RSL29, or RSC1 pads. GT3 owners were our #1 customers. The discs use a completely different method of construction from the PCCB's and is about 3X more thermally efficient than the Brembo rotors. They're pretty neat but the company in the UK who makes them just went into receivership and I'm not sure what's going to happen with the tech. We're working on replacements and have a few solutions that being held up by tariffs.

Is this Surface Transform rotors? I came very very close to using those. A good friend of mine uses Surface Transorm rotors as they can take the heat on the track and last way longer than Brembo OEM style rotors, even the ccm schedule layup Porsche and few others use.
They are indeed ST's.

That is SAD about ST. I was there at Sebring when they came over and starting putting these on some cars and guys like my friend bought them then and there and even sent back to have them refurbished. ST I always knew were top notch by far the best Ccm style rotor. I was going through 3-4 sets of iron rotors a year and came close to ST's but stopped tracking mostly in 2020 after getting into it in 2005. I miss it but cost to run 10-15 events and go all over was getting out of hand with consumables, track insurance, maintenance time and finding time to do it all. Tehn got into exotics but driving only on the street became boring and those in that crowd do some dangerous stuff on the street and and should be on the track (we have a very strict speeding law in Florida) so I sold my Italian dream and got away from it all.
I just put put around now in my Braptor...LOL....
