No idea, but I figure it can't hurt! A old gear head buddy of mine said to try it. Then several people on here mentioned it as an old RV storage trick. @Brian_B said he just ended up with rodents that smelled spring time fresh...and peanut shells in his air cleaner box. I might try some clove oil in some prominent spots ...unless some can tell me why that's a bad idea?...eats paint..... corrosive to aluminum.....

Maybe they aren't motivated enough. Know any farmers? Maybe barn cat lineage will make the difference.

The engine compartments in these photos are filthy. Mine is so clean you could surgically remove someone’s appendix atop the motor and have no worries of infection. ( Yeah, I don’t off road). Lol

OK, I got everything buttoned up on mine. I used 1 layer of split abrasion tubing and wrapped it up with abrasion tape.

But we dont know if this was the the recall yet. But Might be since there was zero abrasion protection on it.

I have used mint oil which a few have sworn by & as of late use Tomcat rat repellant. I have heard dryer sheets work for some as well. I guess the trick is to stay on top of it vice letting the days turn into weeks that turn into months due to other projects . The pickemup truck normally sits in the driveway waiting for something that needs to be picked up, or inclement weather when I can't ride a bike to work. I really should have taken a picture o all the stuff that came out of there yesterday.

I will say I never have issue with my 89 bronco not a single rodent has nibbled on it but my 2014 gt mustang oh that was on the menue. The 2019 gladiator not a single rodent has touched it and same for the 2014 jk so why did they go for the new ford ? It was my understanding that ford does indeed use soy in its sheathing but either way the squirels loved trying to eat my mustang.

Rodents deliberately won’t touch jeeps, kind of a mercy thing… Jeeps are going to fall apart regardless due to design and manufacturing flaws.

Ford needs to release some actual information on this, so owners can make an informed choice about their vehicle. Which harness/where is it a problem.

Don't care if they don't "have a fix yet", they have a duty to provide owners with this kind of information so they can deal with the situation themselves if necessary.

Ford recalls more than half a million Bronco vehicles over engine fire risk

Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than half a million Bronco vehicles because a short circuit in the cars' engine compartments can create heat or spark, and pose a fire risk.

Up to 565,691 Bronco and Bronco Raptor vehicles from the years 2021 to 2026 could be affected, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The cars' engine compartments have a wiring harness that can short-circuit if it's damaged, according to NHTSA.

When a short circuit occurs, it can create smoke or start a fire, and potentially cause serious injury or death.

Only about 1% of the vehicles under recall have the defect, according to the automaker.

To fix the issue, Ford dealers will install sheathing over the wiring for all vehicle owners for free. NHTSA said letters notifying owners of the recall will be mailed beginning on August 24, and that owners may contact Ford customer service and refer to recall number 26S55.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning August 24, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S55. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 23, 2026.
