Sorry but was this entire play-by-play verbatim conversation necessary? Or were you just bored or something?

And yeah personally, I would Chase those threads if possible, might even zip off the first quarter inch if I needed to and run it.
I felt the conversation was important to show what the mechanic’s point of view/excuse was. When speaking to ford there was no hesitation in warranty denial. I have been a customer of that dealership since moving to the area 2 1/2 years ago. I was insulted that they didnt even suggest i bring it in to examine it and then tell me to f%¢k off.
All y'all crackin' on that man's 'Merican flag shoes when we all know all of y'all gots kicked outta the Pig 'N Poke corner store last week for not wearing any shoes OR shirt. SMH!!
BTW those are socks.

Regardless, the dealer is still correct - that's not warrantable. The damage could have been avoided with proper disassembly techniques that I've done in my own garage. Your options are to pay to replace yourself, or try to hold your mechanic accountable for the damage. From reading the convo, he's going to fight you on it. I'd say you're up a creek.

2 and a half years isn't really a long time with a dealer. I've been going to mine for the better part of a decade. Unfortunately they're now having some turnover that, regrettably, is pushing me away and toward a different dealership. It sucks, considering how much business we've done there, but the only face there I recognize anymore are the guy who empties the trash and the service/parts manager - everyone else is new and tries to talk to me like I don't know what I am talking about (I have worked on vehicles my entire life, and design and build equipment for the foundry industry - I'd say I am versed).

I liked the OP’s play-by-play, specifically this bit:

“… And if they ask where I was having it done? And what maintenance was being done that they weren’t doing?”

Because that highlights the (unfortunate) reality that is involved in doing anything non-stock to your vehicle, by technicians who don’t work for Ford. We all do it, but it invariably comes with some non-zero amount of risk. If one’s warranty is in effect and is important to you financially, it’s a factor to always at least consider with outside and self-done work. Because, make no mistake, Ford (like everyone else) will look to deny a claim if they’ve got any reason to. As Michael Corleone says, “It’s business.”

Your mechanic has never heard of PB Blaster rust penetrant!??

That’s the first thing he should’ve reached for long before picking up the impact wrench. We’re talking basic Practical Shop Mechanics 101 here.
Malpractice on his part.

Yep, that line right there - Ford, like any OEM or insurance company, will look for ANY way to get out of paying. They're in business to make money, and the easiest way to do that is to charge money and not pay it out.

The 'cost' of your warranty is rolled into the price of every vehicle Ford builds and sells, and every warranty claim eats away at that profit margin. The more claims they can get out of paying, the better their profits look.

That's why I do very little for modifications to our vehicles when they're under warranty. Once the warranty is out? All bets are off, but until then I am conscious of what I'm doing.

Honestly I think you should probably just appreciate that they didn't waste your time by telling you to bring it in if they knew for a fact they weren't going to warranty it.

I understand where you’re coming from. There are closer dealerships to me but they turned me off as soon as I walked in their door. I have owned several fords, purchased in my original home town, but they wouldn’t know that. I grew up working in my grandfathers jewelry store and I learned early on a repair department could make or break a store. i believe the same holds true in the automotive industry. I’ve invested Way too much in this bronco to trade it in at this point But maybe in the near future… asi said it’s only a ‘24 and haven’t had it long enough. On the other hand I used to trade my Harley’s every 3-5 years (45-75,000 miles). You’re right they’ve had quite a turnover and I miss my service manager. Need to go shopping for another store.

Look, it sucks. We can all sympathize. You let someone you thought was qualified do some work, and things went bad. But it wasn’t a Ford tech and it wasn’t a defective Ford part. The dealer isn’t going to eat the cost for something they know Ford won’t pay for. Again, it sucks, but it is what it is. Don’t blame the dealer.

Not blaming the dealership as much as the manager and his attitude. Again I say that the business depends on all its components to make it run, make the customer happy and make it profitable. I have an appointment for a recall work and I’ll probably call the other dealership to do the work instead.
