No... I did have to spend about 3 hours digging with an ax though.... The silt and clay outside of the hole was so hard I actually bent up my shovel. It was like a rock. No one was with me except my wife and we were 5 hours drive past the sign in gate, which no one had signed into in a couple of days. 12 hours of driving and did not see a single person even at a very long distance. There was also absolutely nothing to attach a winch to.... Did get to meet a 40 inch rattle snake up close and personal, about 10 inches from my face while on my hands and knees digging though. I also carried over about 500 lbs of small rock from the creek 100 yards away to help build a ramp to back out on.
Good workout! Nice job getting home. Note: Winches do not solve every problem!

Wenches though can make the problem seem a lot less insurmountable. LOL

I am kind of used to being in the middle of no where and having to figure it out.

Idaho has a lot of unoccupied land, dessert, forest, plains, mountains, valleys, rocks, mud... A cornucopia of challenges!

Wow, that's a bummer, glad you could get out, I thought that looked a little dicey

Dude, it did not look to be a major obstacle... Looked like other people had gone right through it...

Check it out from a drivers perspective.

Years ago, with a buddy and his square body chevy, we came upon this spot in the trails, aka old logging roads, of PA and you could see it was wet and had lots of leaf cover on it. Buddy says, "I'm goin' for it!". "You're nuts!!!" I said. 'That sucker is bottomless I bet". We get out, he grabs a stick, gets about 4 steps into were the water started, not even a 1/4 of the way across it, he stopped to poke the stick out in front of him and I could see him begin to sink. "See, it's not that bad." he said. By the time he poked around a bit he couldn't move his feet. "Hey, I'm stuck." "NO SHIT!!" I replied. "The truck would be stuck if we would have, "went for it". :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Like I taught my son when we began to ride 4 wheelers, never crest a hill until you know what is on the other side. It never hurts to shut the machine off for a minute get off and walk up the hill to see what is on the other side.
