Customized Bad Ass Tents roof rack.

So I tried to put the factory roof rack on my Ranger Edition 2023 bronco, and it just didn’t fit the look right to me. I wanted something I could carry a couple of rotopax gas cans with. I first thought of just doing the spare tire route, just didn’t feel comfortable with the weight on the not so strong tailgate. I landed on the Bad Ass Tents short rack for the 2 door. The black color still didn’t look right, so I had it powder coated chrome. It was good, but I wanted some more old school vibe. So I went to Home Depot and got some aluminum Chanel and some 1x4 oak. And added a custom platform in between the two cross bars. I really liked the way it came out. Next step is to make some custom mounts for my shovel and axe. As for the rack. I recommend it. It is solid and make little to no wind noise.

I agree that the rotopax are not perfect. But I haven’t found a good way to mount a Jerry can yet.( Maybe I can find a good Jerry can mount to fit on the bad ass side mounts)And I need something because the 2 door has such a small gas tank. I like to think of my bronco as modern/retro.

The funny thing is, my OCD sees the crooked wooden slats in one picture while the comedian in me knows i can't cut straight or measure worth a damn. I have so many random pieces of wood in my garage i was happy it got cold so i could use my fireplace. Great Job.

Haha. I wondered when some was going to comment on the picture. That picture is when I had them just roughly set in the channels. Believe me they are straight now. I had to measure each gap before I screwed them in place.

Haha. I wondered when some was going to comment on the picture. That picture is when I had them just roughly set in the channels. Believe me they are straight now. I had to measure each gap before I screwed them in place.

I figured that was the case but the OCD sees what it wants to see. Now multiple your time working on this by about 5 and you might get to how long it would have taken me to do that. That's If i didn't put it in the incomplete project pile.

The wheels are from thewheelsmith.net. They are 17x8 smoothies. 30mm offset. The tires are Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 255/85/17. The front caps have been custom made by be to look like old school locking hubs.

I have thought about it. But sometimes less is more. And I think the bumpers tie in well with the other black parts.
