Took the fam out for a ride on Father's Day on some PA Game Commission roads near Ricket's Glen. With 20k miles on my original Goodyears, the tires were pretty bald. Ended up getting a puncture flat in the middle of the driver's side rear tire from a rock. Time for new shoes! After some research, I decided to go with the BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3s in a 35 12.5 / 17.

When I picked up the Bronco, The installer asked me to let him know how much fuel efficiency I lose. Asked him why. He said the BFGs were WAY heavier than the Goodyears. Shrugged my shoulders and told him OK and left.

I first noticed I sat a little higher. The 35s with a new tread vs the 315 70 / 17 probably gave me an inch and a half I'm guessing. Then I started to drive. I immediately noticed the weight difference. Acceleration is slower. Stopping takes longer. That said, it feels like it will roll over anything.

I've only had it on the street so far but hammering around town and on hills takes me from around 16mpg to 14mpg with the new tires.

Planning on going to AOAA next week and so I'll post an update after that.

Ive had the same tires and size for about 6k miles. Noticed almost no difference in mpg. Got 24 on the highway even. Love the grip they give in the mud and sand.

I immediately changed to 315/70R17 Falken Wildpeaks when I got my Bronco and my around-town mileage is also 14mpg. You aren’t alone.

Compare road noise versus the Goodyear territory tires? About the same?

Went to AOAA Friday. Had a blast. I aired down to 20psi and rode the western reserve. The terrain was pretty dry. There were still some puddles but they were drying up. I still found some good ones to splash around in and kick some mud up.

Things I noticed...

  • Didn't slip on any uphills our downhills
  • I really didn't notice rocks getting kicked up at the side of the body (when I wasn't intending to kick up rocks!)
  • Mud chunks that got kicked up were much bigger than those from the OEM Goodyears.
  • 1:15 ride to and from AOAA, road noise was the same or less than the Goodyears.

Well they look Badass!
I had 285/75/17 KM2s on my Wrangler and loved them!
Planning to do the same with 35” KM3s when my Goodyears wear out.
