Took the fam out for a ride on Father's Day on some PA Game Commission roads near Ricket's Glen. With 20k miles on my original Goodyears, the tires were pretty bald. Ended up getting a puncture flat in the middle of the driver's side rear tire from a rock. Time for new shoes! After some research, I decided to go with the BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3s in a 35 12.5 / 17.
When I picked up the Bronco, The installer asked me to let him know how much fuel efficiency I lose. Asked him why. He said the BFGs were WAY heavier than the Goodyears. Shrugged my shoulders and told him OK and left.
I first noticed I sat a little higher. The 35s with a new tread vs the 315 70 / 17 probably gave me an inch and a half I'm guessing. Then I started to drive. I immediately noticed the weight difference. Acceleration is slower. Stopping takes longer. That said, it feels like it will roll over anything.
I've only had it on the street so far but hammering around town and on hills takes me from around 16mpg to 14mpg with the new tires.
Planning on going to AOAA next week and so I'll post an update after that.
