It's becoming painfully obvious that I will not be seeing my early 7/14 BL reservation anytime soon and the wife's GMC Terrain lease expired last month. Getting ready to pull the trigger on a temp vehicle and narrowed down to a 2010 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer or a 2010 Mazda CX-9 Sport, both with +/-134k miles. Anyone out there have any words of wisdom on either vehicle?

I have had 3 Explorers a 2002 2004 and right now a 2006 got rid of the 1st two with over 200k miles no major work current one has 150k same no major work but they were all 4.6L V8. Just my experience with Explorers.

Thanks for the input. The one I'm looking at has the V6 and I hear mixed reviews...kinda love vs. hate reviews

I like both but knew a couple people with nightmare stories about the big Mazda’s from around 05-07. I don’t know if that stopped by 10, but know the cx5 had problems as recently as 2016.
I’d lean more toward EB

If the CX-9 has the same engine as the CX-7s I'd look at anything else. The list of problems is long, especially once they get past the 100k mark.

I own a 2013 Mazda CX-5 with 100k on it and aside of a MAF sensor, has been solid.

However, I was recently looking up worst cars reliability and the cx9 was actually on the list. I was a bit surprised but my CX-5 is slyactiv but the cx9 where not (at least the last time I looked)

I had an 05 explorer with the 4.0 and it was bulletproof. I cringe looking back at how mean I was to that truck, and it took it all and kept ticking.

2010 CX-9 is a reliable model, not the first model, so any new development issues were solved by then.

I had an 09 cx-9, finally got rid of it this past year with 220,000 miles and never had a major issue with it. Great car for me.

4th gen Explorers are decently reliable. Radiator, wheel bearing issues seem to be the most common. The 6 speed transmission is a huge improvement over the older 5 speed. The 4.0 v6 by 2010 was pretty good, the timing chains are always a bit of a concern but not at 135k miles.

But idk I just have 7 Explorers in my driveway lol
