I just downsized from an F250 FX4 SCREW to a Bronco Badlands (non-SAS) LUX 2 door in AGM. The change has been, as you might imagine, immense.
There are things I'll miss about the F250, like the cargo space. I already miss the huge mirrors. And I'll miss all places in the cab to stow stuff. I doubt I'll miss the trips to the gas pump. The range afforded by the 34-gallon tank was nice. I just needed a cosigner to fill up. I won't miss the turning radius or, rather, the lack thereof. I had it to pull a travel trailer. We're selling the trailer so; I don't need the truck.
Now, this is actually my second Bronco, if the Bronco II (V6 manual 2WD) counts. It was nearly the same color as my new one. That one made 215,000 miles over 12 years setting the bar pretty high for this one.
I looked at Wranglers and Broncos. I went with this Bronco for three reasons. First, it costed less than a comparably equipped Rubicon. I'm retired, money matters. Second, I've had good luck with Ford trucks over the last 42 years. Third, my dad had an IH Scout. Gen6 Broncos look like what I'd imagine the Scout would look if IH still made them. More so than the Broncos of that time period.
This truck will probably be classed as a "pavement princess" or a "mall crawler." I'm not that into off-road as recreation and my wilderness days are behind me.
The mods/accessories I have planned, the list is already quite long, are mostly interior. I've already started with a stubby antenna (I did say "mostly"), screen protector, and grab handles. Steps are on the way. Even 32's put the door a fair ways up. There's going to be quite a bit of molle to get back some of that storage space.
I'm here to find ideas and solutions that work. For a four-year-old model, there's already a lot of stuff out there, some good, some not so much. You folks have already helped pick through the options. there will be more.
Oh, and that turning radius thing? Hooking a U from the left turn lane into the inside lane is incredible.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading. I hope it was at least mildly interesting.
