Found this odd thing on the inside of my driver's side roof panel main latch cover.

Non-magnetic, 'looks like a rheostat but is made up of material more like an RFI anti-theft thing on a package of meat at the grocery store.
It's got that hash mark like the OEM spare tires (which we are not to ask about ).

I'm wondering if I should be careful with it and leave it alone.
I've left the cover off for a few days, and have no messages popping up like, "Idiot! Your roof panel is about to fly off!"

Are aliens tracking me?
Ford Financing tracking?
Or worse, is tik tok tracking me?!?!?

Maybe I should I take this out and glue it onto the back of a wild squirrel. Or, slip it onto a slow boat to China.

tks!

Ford Bronco Another What's This Part? Solved. alien tracking devic

EDIT: This seems to be a spacer to solidly locate the plastic cover against the roof latch bracket. The metal snap clips can hold tight at the right height.
I am wondering if Ford has a spec that can call out the dimensions of this type of spacer when needed for a quick factory fix until vendor parts can be changed.
thanks all for replying to this!!

Seriously; I am curious what this is and am hoping someone knows.
My thought is inventory tracking from the vendor or factory.

'gotta stay curious!

That doesn't appear to be stock. I bet it's a tracker. Probably put there by the dealer or a previous owner. Or some similar technology.

It's on our '24 Black DIamond, also. THinking it allows for more crush resistance in a crash...?

It's to help the cover from rattling, it's pretty lame I know.
It never occurred to me to ask if it was solid.

Hollow, like a rectangular coil. It is really bonded onto the inside cover surface.

Maybe it is some weird ass part they had on hand to press against something to keep rattle down..... ? shoot, now I have to go look closer at the latch (yes, I still have the cover removed )

you got it! It looks like a spacer resting against the flat metal bracket of the roof panel hold down assy, keeping the plastic cover held in-line at the correct distance for the metal push clips to snap and stay snug. There's one on the RH side, I could feel it with my finger down there.

This must have been a quick engineering fix until a mold revision for a wall or peg in the plastic cover could be made with the supplier. Those sneaky engineers.........
