The trick is finding a high quality stubby.

The FM channels I listen to in my area are right at the cusp of reception. I swapped to the nicest shorter antenna I could find, spent some decent change... and my ability to receive those stations dropped precipitously (probably 25% of my previous coverage area).

I ended up putting the stock antenna back on.

If I was in a more urban area... or less hilly terrain... I probably wouldn't have had any problem with the new antenna.
A 'Tuned' FM antenna for the broadcast band is a waste of time as the band is so narrow (88–108 MHz). Most car antennas are 1/4 wave dipole (31"), for a balance between performance and length. A stubby uses an internal 'coil' of wire, when added to the vertical length equals the 1/4 wave length. Although this works after a fashion the reduced capture area of the antenna also reduces signal gain. This can be mitigated somewhat by using either an internal or external powered amplifer to boost gain. A 1/2 wave is best but at 62" is not practical. It is best to stick with the stock antenna as it has been optimized for vehicle performance.

Its awful and it comes off, along with the stickers and badging, as soon as I take delivery. I mean it has satellite so who needs or even listens to terrestrial anymore?

Ford, please release some additional details about the bronco. An antenna thread should never reach 3 pages, unless its people crying about the .50 cal antenna.

Guess I'm the only guy on this forum that's into sports. Without AM I wouldn't be able to listen to local baseball, football, or hockey when out and about and one of my teams is playing. I'm also not mortally offended by the mere presence of an antenna, but that's probably more due to my age than anything (which I guess I already proved by admitting that I'm OK with listening to AM radio).
It's not free, but you could do that via SiriusXM. I've found that if you cancel the service, they will do anything to get you back, so I pay $60/year plus taxes.

Alright keep it in your pants.....Umm Errr............Nevermind woman parts are always inside.

Local sports here went FM. Spring training is the only thing on AM now.

But it will work where AM does not.
You could sign up for a free trial, and then cancel every time you go on a trip.
LOL

That's nice for the improved reception capability (always lose signal or get major static on AM when I'm in Lower Wacker, for example) but here any team I want to listen to is on AM 670, 720 or 780. Very occasionally there's a conflict which will bump a team over to an FM partner but 99% of the time it's an AM world for Chicago sports radio. So I'm not about to do anything that would *reduce* my vehicle's AM reception capability.
