People think just because a vehicle has 4 wheel drive they can go anywhere. Stupid. I do hope it opens because I was planning on doing it this week.

Once again irresponsible wheelers that don’t know what they are doing and pull this crap! The sheriff is looking for anyway he can to shut this pass because it is dangerous and people that aren’t experienced enough to handle it get hurt and even killed. This is an amazing road and would be such a loss if they close it permanently. Folks follow the rules or get another hobby , responsible wheelers would like to continue to enjoy these great trails. Check out what Moab is trying to do to the off road community because of a**h***$. Bronco Safari is hanging on by a thread fighting for us to keep Moab open! Sorry for the rant I’m an old Devil Dog.

With more people, comes more bullshit.. less space.. and less freedom.

It's a problem that won't be solved.
As a local, I don't see it as a "more people" issue. I see it as an irresponsible / disrespectful person issue.

Last year the same sheriff received a call from someone who witnessed the occupants of an out-of-state vehicle (TX) moving barriers to drive up into a burn area with a lot of standing timber. The sheriff went up to chat with them, and put the barriers back after he passed them on the way up. On his way escorting the offender down, he ran into another vehicle (also TX) that moved the barriers again to drive up. Double header for the sheriff!

As a former SAR person I have zero tolerance for disrespectful tourons.

Forgive my naivety, but what did the 4runner do here? Did he just not hug the inside enough?

Great! Texas license plates, they already immensely dislike us up there. Has to be a transplant.(n)

As a Texan and an owner of a second home in Ouray for years, here are my thoughts on how some of the locals think on some things. 1st blame the Texans, if that fails blame the Californians. If neither work then just blame the "tourists". Usually comments about Texans or whatever are made on the internet.

Almost every local I've ever met is super nice and uses common sense on things like this. They realize that even locals occasionally drive carelessly at times. Sometimes the penalty is death. And every segment of the population has its share of idiots.

Had a friend a fellow Texan on vacation in Crested Butte. ( cruddy butt) Break his leg. Wound up buying a house there. I used to visiting him every year. Mountain biking, fishing the Gunnison, ETC. It was great. They hated him. They opened his mail and numerous other welcomes. I made the mistake of saying howdy at the fly shop and have them walk out the door leaving me alone in the store.

It's a simple mixture of math and psychology.

Any society you pick will have 'X' amount of folks who are irresponsible and disrespectful.. increasing the total number of people in said society WILL naturally increase the number of douchebags that ruin it for everyone else.

Enjoy all the fun things while you can...
