My fiancé has recently bought a 2024 Badlands (she loves it) and the sales woman who sold her the vehicle asked if she could take her Bronco to a sister dealership (closer to home) for a software update.

We asked her if we could take it to the dealer that's down the road (not the sister dealership) and she recommended we didn't.

I found this strange. What made it more strange was she wouldn't tell us what the software update was.

We even called the sister dealership to ask what the update was for and they had no clue what the sales woman was referring to and knew nothing about it.

Anyway we can look up Updates needed on a particular Bronco?

The overwhelming majority of software updates these days happen automatically over the cellular modem built into the Bronco. No longer any need to visit the dealership for the update unless you are experiencing a specific issue.

I obviously have zero context as to what this particular dealership was talking about, so I won't even begin to speculate. But generally speaking any Ford dealer can check the update status by plugging in the VIN number into the dealership technician portal. The vehicle itself doesn't even have to be physically present.

Exactly why I'm confused. I figured it could be done OTA.

Thanks for the reply and I love your vids 🤌

Not everything can be done OTA, but yes, the majority can.

Either way, without knowing what that dealer is talking about, we're just guessing 🤷‍♂️

If she wants some piece of mind I'd just plug her VIN into the recall website to make sure there is nothing pending: https://www.ford.com/support/recalls/

And thanks! Glad people find the vids helpful.

Thanks, the only recall is one we're already aware of (rear suspension reservoir).

As someone in auto sales myself, I find this very strange. If there was a critical update that was needed, why would they not do it there?

Yes, with the VIN, anyone with PTS or FDRS access can see what modules have pending updates. Message me the VIN and I can check that for you if you'd like.

Do you mind saying which dealers? Here in Houston it’s a dance figuring out who understands Broncos less than the rest.

Just an update. Things get stranger..

The sales woman is in a sort of panic. I spoke with her and she finally said it was related to the rear suspension recall and that an inspection is required by their dealership in order for them to process my fiancés Bronco purchase and for us to get our plates in.

She's really freaking out and demanding we get the "inspection" done by Friday.

We went from software update to inspection of rear suspension.

Yea, that's the issue. See attached. I was out on vacation with no access to anything, but its legit. It may or may not be affected, but details on how to check for that are not clearly outlined anywhere I can see. If I were selling you this truck, I'd be freaked out right about now, too. lol

Interesting. I was under the impression a vehicle could NOT be sold until the safety recall issue is corrected.

That is 100% accurate and stated in the attachment for the recall. Seems like someone in the sales department messed up and sold a car they were not supposed to sell.

Yeah, apparently they sold a few with the recall..

Not sure what all we can do other than wait for a fix.

The sales woman called again in a major panic and in an aggressive tone pretty much demanding we return the vehicle by tomorrow or else we wouldn't get our hard plates. Not sure how true that is.

I called Ford customer support to inform them of the entire situation and they contact the dealer and we have been left alone and have not been called or texted (we were getting a call or text several times a day from the sales woman).

I also called the DMV to see if the dealer has sent the state any paperwork, which they have yet to do, but are required to within 30 days.

Yea, they're trying to avoid that $27k fine for not adhering to stop-sale. Not sure how long they can hold on to the titling work before they have to process it, but yea, looks like they're screwed. However, if your truck DOES qualify for the recall, it does present a safety issue, so you will have to weigh that part out yourself. Maybe take it to another dealer to have it inspected for the issue?
