Received on Friday. Was extremely well packed. Painted my vents that day with 24 hour dry time to Saturday install. The vents are held on by nuts, the dv8 backer plates are riveted on. I drilled them out to paint those also. Did the fronts in red and the backs in flat black. For the rears you will also have to paint the inner wheel well behind the vents. Or your looking at ford quality paint work behind it.
Directions off the website are excellent. Install is straight forward. I removed each tire and flare. More than enough room like that. The new liners fit very well. One person can handle this in 4/5 hours for all 4.
You will need a rivet nut setter, step drill bit, they want 11/32 think I did 3/8 or a hair over 11/32. Just stop when you can get it in the hole. Rivet nuts seemed like good quality. Had no spinners. We have one screw above the rock rail both sides for the rears. That’s a 9/32 and will take a couple minutes to get out a quarter turn at a time. It’s not reused. For the plastic Phillips retainers I had a couple heads strip out. Quick fix for that is turn the drill on high lean into her and let it eat. Will melt right through and fall off. Actually quicker to do it that way. The plastic pins will not be reused. Front liner top mounting points do not need to be drilled. They are big enough as they are.
Fit and finish look great. No big gaps at all. I may dyno mat the backs of them just because I’m anal and like working on the truck. Don’t think it needs it, just a want. These do have small opening where the aluminum comes together in the bends. They are tight but don’t think they are going to stop as much as the oem. Will see.
Took her out for a cruise, just in the city. Didn’t here any rock impacts, no louder than normal. I’m not 100% but I think the oil temp was running about 15 degrees cooler than before. Will have to put some more drive time in to confirm. Was running 190 and usually I should be 205-210. Trans was still at 200-205 like normal.
I took the time to add connectors to the rock light. Put the water proof quick connects on so you can drop the liner and leave the lights mounted. I also ordered thumb screw that will replace the m6 bolts the kit came with. Will make for a tool less removal that should take a minute or 2 to remove. I did add rivet nuts to where they wanted the oem hardware reused. Worked out just fine. Make sure you use a quality tool.
Overall they were pricey for liners. Quality wise I have no complaints. Very well thought out and executed. I am happy with them and it was a fun project. Quality is on point, lots of extra hardware was appreciated.
My first DV8 product. I can approve and recommend these.
