Last December I installed the Ford Performace/HOSS 3.0 Rack.

For the last month I've felt a slight clunk going over speed bumps, maybe a slight noise. Today I went to inspect and here is the finding. The inner tierod ball joint has failed. It was immediately obvious when jacking up the front end, the tire had significant side to side play. We popped the boot off to find this.

I'm no tierod expert but this isn't how I expected it to fail after less than a year. Has anyone seen this failure on the 3.0 tirerods?

Does it seem like any water got through the boot? I guess that's a cheap thing to fix.

Absolutely Dry. No water ingress. These were factory sealed on the rack when delivered.

Cheap minus today's cost of a 3.0 inner which is about $225. Luckily we had one on hand.

I’m more interested in finding out how you can do any work with those thick gloves on! 😉

But on a serious note - I have the factory Hoss 3.0 rack and tierods on my rig. It gets beat pretty hard on a daily basis for work and there are is no clunking so far from the steering. Were they still tight tight when you removed them?

Do you recall having any tire spin while it was bound on something? Those rings being shredded seem like a clue, what would cause those to do that. Do you have a lift?

Years of practice... and I forgot my actual working gloves.

Everything was factory tight. No outside issues.

I mean, I'm not easy on it. Its been to Baja and Wind Rock in the last 90 days. No hard binding. Super mild lift with Bilstein 8112s.

I guess you might check the steering rack is straight and all the bolts are there/tight. I didn't have one of my diff bolts in my frontend and it ruined the diff and axle after about 2 1/2 years.
