Who cares what Ford wanted.... If you like it do it.... I will agree with those that say it is a safety issue. I think Sharks answer is a really good one... Use vinyl. No safety issue.

I made two mirror image kicking broncos (but added a unicorn horn) and cut them out of ASTM IV high intensity prismatic vinyl and put one on each side (mirror image allows each to be facing forward) .... Look at my avatar. At night those are a highly reflective "do not hit me" shinny white if a car is coming at me from the side.

Personal preference and taste is just thst, personal! So you do you borther and don’t worry about what others may think. It’s 100% your rig, enjoy it!!

That being said though - seriously, you do not want that to be there. If that air bag were to go off, that thing is likely to do some damage, or tear the air bag making it useless. But more importantly, your insurance company would likely deny paying for passenger medical reimbursement if this thing were to be found as the cause of the injury. You never want to give them any reason to not be there when you need them the most, it’s a guaranteed path to your bankruptcy. Never install something that could impede the function and/or effectiveness of an airbag…
