Looks a ton of fun. I was looking last night at this event. Question... Is the linked red cliffs lodge the only place to stay if you are attending? Not showing any availability on the dates I’d like.

Moab itself is only about a 20 minute drive from Red Cliffs. Quite a few hotels, restaurants, and touristy type stuff. I ended up using some of my IHG rewards points and getting a free room for the trip at the Holiday Inn in Moab.

I was in the other group. We had a stellar time. Beautiful location and easy entrance. Great walk through of all the features.

Approximately 8 hours of steering wheel time. Variety of topography included.

As others have said, Moab is not far. On the dates I'm looking, Red Cliffs' rates are crazy expensive. The Adventure Inn in Moab is a great little motor court style motel. I'll likely stay there if I can make it out.

Since we were all there on the same day, I'll tag on here...

Moab is the only site that uses actual 4X4 trails that aren't man made for the event. Dome Plateau is rated 4/10 and is typically a 6 hr 35.8 mile trek. We didn't do the whole route, but that's not important - what is important is that fun was had by all! This is the map of the trail with the trail head at the arrow and the lunch spot at the star:

Near the star is the part where I forgot to unpause tracking on OnX, so guess what route we took from lunch... I'll give you three tries and the first two don't count!

The little black 4x4 marker on the left side of the image is where we explored the arch. That's Dome La Boca Arch.

Key take away from the event for me:

Badlands trim is where it's at for Utah terrain. That said, Sasquatch made more difference.. I was in a Big Bend Squatch and it made obstacles easy. The ride was rougher than it is in a Badlands due to the lack of a sta bar disconnect, but the Sasquatch really made a huge difference.

I'm regretting not Squatching and I'm in the process of self Squatching my ride now.

I was easily riding over obstacles that the 33s were scraping on. It reinforced my opinion that the 1-2 inches of clearance on the Sasquatch makes a huge difference in the brake over.

Dome Plateau was a great run for the training.

Also, people have commented on the difficulty levels of the Off Roadeo sites. Once they had us up to speed at a basic level, and most of the people next to me in the group had never been off road in their lives, they left it on us to choose our lines, pick how we wanted to run the obstacle, and let us be us. If you wanted to run the hard line, more power to you! They were there to guide. I was having fun rolling those big Sasquatch tires across the tops of the rocks.

And you couldn't ask for a better view from the lunch spot.

After dinner last night, I trekked back north to Draper because i'm prepping for my camping trip to Buena Vista for Super Celebration West. One of the guides at the Off Roadeo is going to be there with his group and I'm definitely looking for him to catch up while out there.

That was the big thing - I had the chance to make some new friends and experience a new trail with them! My wife, who is staunchly against off roading (incident involving a cliff near Green Pass WA) is even now interested in doing some of the 4/10 trails in Moab with me. If my wife gets on board, the sky's the limit!

A few takeaways after 8 hours of driving off road:

Stabilizer bar disconnect helped more than front/rear lockers. Usually kept both wheels in contact.

V6 offers plenty of power in the low torque range.

Ford says 4Lo is good for up to 40mph which is several times faster than I ever drive in 4LO

Trail Turn, One Pedal, and Crawl Control are nice. They do need some finessing to get used to.

It will be great to have some 21s on the trails at Super Cel. Like you mentioned the friends and connections we are making are a significant part of the appeal of the Bronco for me. I have a few more people from today’s run changing plans to meet us in BV.

This evening as I was unpacking the gear, I got notification that my FE will be built week of Oct 11! The end is near. See you (and everyone else coming over) in BV!

Oh, great! If you see a cactus gray badlands with Utah DV plates, that's probably me. Say HI! I'm like you, making connections is what makes this fun! :)

My birthday is in the same week as your ride is getting built! To me, getting more people a ride is like a birthday present. I want everyone to get their broncos!
