I hear that the trails along the east shoreline can have deep sand. Probably best to go in pairs to that part of the lake.

A fun trail in the area is the one to the Log Cabin Mine NW of Lee Vining. The property is an inholding owned by the Boy Scouts. There are two parallel routes to get there - a nice, graded gravel/dirt road to the west and an old, eroded road to the east that's the original one to the mine. The second one offers some great views of the lake, especially from side routes at the top.

Had a chance to drive around the Mono Lake area this weekend. One trail got a bit narrow... :/

Mono Lake is on my list, maybe next time I visit SoCal. How was the trail? Nice views?

Hopefully that’s just the usual wildlife pin-striping of sap+dust that look like scratches but washes off easily.
